This morning when I was walking from key bridge Marriott into work I passed a man giving out free high fives near the counting station that counts the bikes. He had a sign and everything. He was smiling at and offering high fives to all the bikers but nothing for a walker! I could have used a high five this morning!
does the biking community discriminate against walkers?!?!”
From my perspective the high fives were free and you get what you pay for.
I was the Smiling Man giving the Free Highs, along with my BikeArlington Colleague Erin. Early in our stint along the trail, we had a jogger do a Crazy Ivan to come across the trail to get a Free High Five and nearly caused a cyclist to crash. So we scaled back a little to not create hazards. But if we could so safely, we high-fived everybody.
I can’t speak to the situation of when your co-worker happened by, but my guess it had something to with crowded trail conditions. Since I was mostly taking pictures, the one time I handed the camera to Erin so I could do some high-fives, I know there was a steady stream of cyclists coming by.

Please let your co-worker know that we do not discriminate and will happily deliver a high-five to him/her. I will be down at Gateway Park on BtWD on May 15 and if they come by they can get TWO free high fives and maybe even a hug.

From you?. . . .or Erin?
Rootchopper will probably want to know that info to pass along to his co-worker.

ParticipantPretty sure that’s Me, Dana, and Consularrider in the first pick. Thanks for the high five Henry!

ParticipantI ran in to work that day and definitely got my high-five from Erin (and no, I was not the crazy ivan jogger).

ParticipantI suspect the co-worker was teasing.

ParticipantPedestrians should get off the trails, they were built for cyclists! Plus pedestrians don’t pay their fair share in taxes for the trails. Pedestrians look funny in their little spandex jogging pants. Also, pedestrians are always jaywalking against red lights!

ParticipantTHAT trail looks suspiciously like a sidewalk.

I dont know. I would not trust Rootchopper’s co-workers. They have been known to go postal.

ParticipantMy co-worker’s remark was tongue in cheek. I will pass along your explanation though. Thanks.
