This week marked the first day I pedicabbed two days in one week; Wednesday for the afternoon game vs. the Cardinals, and Friday night for the night game vs. the Reds. On Wednesday I got up early and took the second (making lunches for the boys and doing laundry early made me just miss the first bus out of Kings Park West to the Pentagon) bus out of Kings Park West (Fairfax/Burke) to the Pentagon. I then pedaled up to Farragut across the normal route. I arrived at the garage a few minutes before 7 (they were still in the process of openning up), locked up my commuter, and picked up my moneymaker to ride to the Navy Yard by 7:30. I made it to Yards park by 8:00, locked up my bike and headded into the yard. I worked my normal job, saving the Navy gas money, until 11:45, then changed, unlocked my bike and hit the streets. I didnt’ get my first fare until my coworker needed a ride to the Orange line Metro at Eastern Market at 12:30. On the return trip down hill business started to pick up, and by 1:30 I had transported 6 fares for nearly $80. My boss had organized a trip to the Nats game so at 1:45 when business wound down as it always does by the 4th inning, I Valeted my pedicab at the ballpark and walked in to the game. I arrived at the bottom of the forth inning and stayed till the start of the 7th inning stretch, then I headed back out to the streets to pick up the end of the game crowd. I managed 4 more fares including a ride for 2 gentlement up near Capital South, then returned the Pedicab to Farragut and made it down to the Pentagon to catch a bus by 6:15.

On Friday I worked a fulll day at work ( No coffee club since I had to get in before 8am to put in my full hours by 4. I then rode my bike out Eye to 7th SW, up to H NW, to 11th NW up to K NW then up to the garage at 17 and Connecticut. I did my bike preps and was back on the road by 4:45, and to Near south east by 5:30. The construction on H street bounced my rickshaw around pretty good; enough to make the seat bounce out and almost fall off of the pedicab. With a quick stop to reposition, and realign the chain, I was ready to go. Last night was not my best night for pedicabbing, but it was not bad. By 7:30 I had made about 60 bucks (minus the 30 for the rental). I managed to get two more fares before 9pm and then decided to head home. Home is a 40 minute pedicab ride back up to Farragut Square, and a metro ride with my bike to Vienna. I arrived at the Vienna metro by 9:50 and decided to just wait 20 minutes for the CUE bus to GMU campus (across the street from my house) than to pedal out on Lee highway (scarry), and up the Old Lee highway hill to Fairfax (too beat). a few minutes before 11 I rolled into my house tired, sore, sunburned, and hungry. This is a tough business. I think everyone on the street had a bad week. Hope next week is a little easier and a little more fruitful.

I’m surprised that with such fantastic weather that you didn’t have more customers. Weird.

Probably the post-Cherry Blossom Festival lull. Most tourists probably planned their trips for earlier in the month or toward the end of spring (end-of-year class trips).
