I want to give a big shout out to that minivan full of college kids who shouted “Pedal, Lance, Pedal” as they observed my awesome acceleration from the stoplight at Glebe on westbound Fairfax. As a middle-aged schlub, I expect this behavior when decked out in my full commuter kit–Walmart khakis and polo shirt, with a safety vest thrown over the top. Unfortunately, I was unable to thank them for stroking my ego, for as I immediately caught up with them at the light at Wakefield, they had rolled up their windows and locked their doors.

P.S. My name is not Lance.

    Nice.

I rode past some tourists (from Holland, I think) in my yellow vest once, and one said “yellow jersey!” I was the only rider there, so yeah, I was in the lead.

Totally unrelated to this post, but I thought I’d say it anyways… Tweet from some current pro rider, I don’t remember who.. “Glad Lance retired so we can all go back to riding a normal cadence again.”

    Hugs and kisses,

    Dirt.

Armstrong won a time trial gold yesterday. True statement.

When asked if they’re related, her response is “No we’re not, I’m the Armstrong with the gold medal.”

I grew up in Idaho, KA’s home turf. For the most part the Boise area is pretty flat, but there’s a nice climb up to the ski area that’s just outside of town. They have an actual sign posted on the side of the road noting that this is part of KA’s regular training routes. Not too many celebrities in Boise (besides Larry Craig) but Kristin Armstrong apparently qualifies:

Thankfully she went to UI and not Boise State! I missed being a classmate of hers by a couple of years, since my freshman year was 1998 and she graduated in 1995.

Where in Idaho did you grow up Jim? I was born and raised in Coeur d’Alene.

Grew up in Nampa. Was big into the bike boom in the 70’s, as was everyone else. I rode all over treasure valley. Riding into the “big city” (Boise) was a real adventure!

Watching the Exergy Tour – which takes place in Idaho and I think might be the only UCI women’s stage race in the US – I was rather surprised to see how supportive the fans and how big the crowds were. Then I started finding more info and made the link with KA. Aha!
