ParticipantOr you can ride up the Capital Croissant to Bethesda and see the same trees with no crowds – http://www.dcpages.com/gallery/Cherry-Blossoms-Kenwood/

ParticipantI have to say that I’m getting a bit tired of winter, and seeing the slightly later bloom dates compared to last year only confirms to me that this winter (particularly February and probably March) was not nearly as mild (read: bearable) as last year. Looking at the almanac seems to back that up, as February 2013’s mean temp was 5 degrees below February 2012, and the average daily high was 7 degrees lower. The numbers for 2011 are similar to 2012, but 2013 was slightly warmer than 2010, so admittedly, there isn’t much of a trend going on….March numbers are all over the map, so it’s tough to say what we have to look forward to this month. Either way, I just want want some 60s…that’s all, just 60s and I’ll be happy.

That’s an understatement for me. At least we had some sunshine today.

Great pics. Anybody know the cross street address for seeing the blossoms in Kenwood? I’m completely unfamiliar with the neighborhood.

I believe it’s the first street level crossing as you are heading north on the CCT – Dorset Ave?

That’s the one. Turn westbound (left if you’re headed towards Bethesda) and you can’t miss them.

ParticipantThanks for the info. I will have to check out the “other cherry blossoms” too!

ParticipantThere are also groves of cherries, and other flowering trees, sprinkled all over. There are some nice ones at, and across the street from, the Japanese-American Memorial on Louisiana Ave, near Union Station.

Any chance we can get a heads up if/when they open? I know that often times the trees around the city blossom at surprisingly different times, and wouldn’t mind riding up there with the wife to enjoy a day when they open up.

If I see something I’ll post it. I don’t live up there or go there regularly, I only knew about it because someone told me during a previous year. I imagine it’ll be the same time frame as the ones on the Mall, but like I said, I’ll definitely post up if I hear anything.
