I think we all need something to go along with all those coffee rides! Not sure if our esteemed Edelweiss will be offering a donut ride pointless prize but I would like to offer a pastry ride pointless prize. There could be a bit of overlap with cream puffs and Kouign-amann. The rules are similar to chuxtr’s coffee ride.

    1. The object is to visit as many different places serving pastries as possible on a bike. Once you visit one place, that’s it. A second visit to the same venue doesn’t count.

    2. Chains are allowed. However once you visit one chain outlet that’s it. A visit to the same outlet but at a different location doesn’t count.

    3. Bakeries, coffee places, groceries, e.g., Safeway, Whole Foods, and convenience stores for some “swamp” bakeries, e.g., 7-11, Wawa, are fine. The chain rule applies so once you visit one of them that’s it.

    4. For your ride to count, use #FS2019pastryride in your Strava ride title and include the name of the place you visited, e.g., #FS2019pastryride Breadfurst. Not required, but encouraged, is to also post pics on your Strava. And if you want to post your Strava ride link and pics on this thread for all to see, that would be fun too (but not required).

    5. Acceptable forms of pastry. Croissant, pain au chocolat, tarts, macaron, oui. Probably should have consulted someone that bakes but I believe donuts do NOT count unless it is in the form of a cream puff. However, as I understand pies like apple strudel are a type of pastry so they DO count.

    6. You are free to combine this with other rides. Pastries naturally go well with coffee rides.

    7. The winner will be whoever has visited the most different pastry places.

Let me know if there are any questions. Happy nibbling!

#FS2019pastryride #49. It rained all day and no tenía ganas. Aound 5 pm it finally stopped and I headed out to try and ride 2π for International Pi Day, but I went just a little bit too far. I stopped in Bockenheim at Back-Factory close to π miles and had a coffee and some sort of vanilla puddingish filled pastry. The at just past 2π miles I stopped at The Fieldhouse for CLO’s Pi(e) Day and had a small slice of Lemon (no meringue) pie. I did not take a camera with me since I expected a deluge at any minute.

#FS2019pastryride #50. Another gray, rainy Frankfurt day. I rode to the Fiat/Chrysler dealer to pick up my car and stopped in Nied at Gabi’s Backstube as they reopended at 3 pm, just beating a troop of 15 elementary school kids in the door. I took my coffee and mini-Schokocroissant and mini-Apfelplunder outside to a bench.

#FS2019pastryride #51. https://www.strava.com/activities/2217578761 Don’t know what’s up, but no options for photo or links????

I rode a paved loop through Hausen to Oberursel where I stopped at Der Bäcker Eifler in the pedestrian zone for coffee and a Himbeerschinke. Then I continued on to Bad Homburg and returned via Harheim.

#FS2019pastryride #53. I headed to the CG to use the ATM and thought about a haircut, but the barber’s on vacation until 3/24. On the way home I stopped at the Café Marcella in Bornheim (a former Italian espresso bar and Eiscafé) and had coffee and croissant. The prefix Eis has been covered up by a Japanese flag. Again no photos since I didn’t take my camera with me. How about a teaser from Wertheim at the confluence of the Tauber and main Rivers from a late afternoon ride?

#FS2019pastryride #54, and we’re done! For the final day of #BAFS2019 I was riding most of Der Sportive route of Liebliches Taubertal. The morning started out with valley for, but most burned off as I was leaving at 9:30 am.

After Bronnbach I missed my turn and ended up mostly following Der Klassiker route which took me into Tauberbischofsheim where I stopped for coffee and an Apfeltasche at the Mocca Espresso Bar.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber, end of the ride, is in sight, only 300 more feet of climbing in the last two miles!

Congrats to everyone that participated in the pastry ride!

First prize goes to Chris/consular rider for a dominating performance in the German countryside!

Our runner up and North American champ goes to Sam/secstate who found some killer pies in Alexandria.

On the heels, or should I say wheels, of Sam were Elizabeth and Robin B who had the most pastries/mile!

I hope you all had fun and enjoyed some pastry!
