Pastry ride pointless prize

I was supposed to have Valentines Day lunch with my wife, well that was a DNS due to her work. So I just had to go for #FS2019pastryride #24 to make myself feel better. This was very similar to yesterday’s ride, but I stopped at the Philippi’s Backstube in Büdesheim for Café Crema and Butter Croissant Schoko. I should have gotten the Multifruitplunder, but I didn’t see them until after the other was on my plate.

Another BEAUTIFUL February day to ride and it’s supposed to stay like this for the 10 day extended forecast! For #FS2019pastryride #25, I rode a variant of Frankfurt’s GrünGürtel with my semi-regular riding partner, another retired FSO. This time we stopped at the Coffee Shop & Bakery in Gravenburch, almost exactly at the half way point. Today I had a savory pastry with chicken and 4 kinds of cheese

I need an “is this pastry” ruling. My stop today was at the Berg Station Café in Huth Park, but other than croissants there was nothing on the menu that was a “pastry.” In their display case they had Vanile-Schaume Kuchen which turned out to be something between Key Lime Pie and cheese cake. It had a crumb crust and did appear to have been baked.

#FS2019pastryride #28. Rain in the morn cleared at lunch time so I headed out with my irregular riding partner for my Hausen-Oberursel-Bad Homburg-Harheim paved loop. I wanted to stop at Lok 21 in Bad Homburg located in a re-purposed train roundhouse, but they closed for a private function about 15 minutes before we got there. Instead we headed over to Bäckerei Flachs located on the Europakreisel in Bad Homburg, I had a Kirschpuddingplunder with my coffee. Sorry for the crappy pictures.

While my teameights are sleazing to the winter gunk, I got out for another lovely ride in Frankfurt, #FS2019pastryride #29. According to Google Maps there’s supposed to be a Backhaus at Bornweg 20 in Nieder Erlenbach, but I’ve been by that address three times this week and can’t see it. I stopped at the Café Comet in Harheim instead and had a Laugencroissant with my coffee.

I was too tired to report in last night. #FS2019pastryride #31. A double dipper, I stopped a Müller Kaffeerösterei in Mainz and had some sort of a raspberry tart with my coffee at mile 26. Then late in the ride I needed some calories, so I stopped at the Bäckerei Marsi in Bieber around mile 90 for a Laugencroissant, some type of apple pastry and a Coke.

#FS2019pastryride #33. Another blue sky morning with only a “chill” in the air. I was back on the Pugsley looping through the parks and stopped a WPS Bäckerei & Caféin Dornbusch for coffee and a Französisch Zimtbrötchen. Looks like WPS is now part of Heberer Weiner Feinbäckerei, so that’s another large chain done.

#FS2019pastryride #34. After a Monday morning departure seminar and lunch at the CG, I headed east from Frankfurt and my first overnight was at the LandGasthof zum Quelle in Aufenau. After arriving there I went out for another loop, stopping a a small bike shop to get my chain replaced (wouldn’t stay in the large rear cog and slipped in a couple others). The owner was very helpful since I rolled by as he was closing (4 pm). Then I headed back a couple kilometers to Wächterbach and none of the cafes in the Altenstadt were open so I stopped at the Pappert I’d been to a year ago for coffee and Windbeutel.

I stopped in Altengronau at the Kirchebäcker in the Netto grocery on the west end of town for an Apfelplunder with my coffee. I should have been a little patient and gone to the same bakery next to the church in the center of town. Found some snow at 1600 feet.

.#FS2019pastryride #36 Der Rhöner Bierradweg in Bavaria. I stopped at two different Schmitts Backstubes, the first in Unsleben where I stopped at Geisler bike shop to get my rear derailleur adjusted. I enjoyed a Kaffee Creme and Buttercoissant about a block from the shop.

#FS2019pastryride #37. Day 4 of my Rhön bike tour, a climb up the Wasserkuppe, the highest “peak” in Hessen at 950 meters. I started with a 20 minute relaxing massage which was part of my two day winter package special at the Gersfelder Hof. Then it was a 500 meter climb from my hotel in Gersfeld. Once again a double dip, after reaching the summit I stopped at the Hotel/Restaurant/CaféPeterschens Mondfahrt for a Kaffee und Apfelkuchen.

I headed down the other side passing through Poppenhausen and heading to Ried where I would get on the Hessen R1 Fulda Radwg and head back to Gersfeld, stopping at the Café am Marktplatz for a Kaffee und Buttercroissant, finishing with the pool and sauna at the hotel.
