ParticipantI can’t help, other than to say if someone steals your bike from a courthouse….well that’s bold.

ParticipantThe courthouse page lists bike parking, but it sounds like racks located around the building.
http://www.dccourts.gov/internet/about/gettinghere/bikein.jsfThey also list nearby car parking garages that may/may not have bike racks in them in an obscured/covered/guarded location.

Thanks! I should have done a bit of homework myself – just though I might try to crowdsource the question.
Someone else recommended an outdoor rack near the Jud. Sq. Metro exit that is right next to a guard station. They also pointed out that with all the officers around that area…someone would have to be pretty bold to wield a pair of bolt-cutters.February 8, 2013 at 6:08 pm #961153jopamora
ParticipantIt is jury duty. Drive in and make yourself even more miserable (nothing to do with Freezing Saddles, move along)
What about bus->CaBi?

ParticipantI’m over there all the time doing work. I park at the corner of C and 6th, right outside of the guard booth. Never had a problem. Also, I would recommend using the C-Street entrance, it is always much shorter than the main Indiana Ave entrance.
Also, take a look at the rules of what you can and can’t bring into the courthouse. My contractor badge allows me to carry a tool bag in, but some typical bike tools might not be allowed.

ParticipantI work here — I don’t think it’s a high-theft area. There are bike racks all over, and cops everywhere.
If the weather’s bad, my building has bike racks in the underground garage. PM me for the secret instructions if you want.

I can see that bike rack from my office!

Those bike racks are on the secure side of the building. You’re going to get Bilsko thrown into the holding facilities.

If that’s true, unless you’re the Chief Deputy US Marshal, I’ve been in your office on multiple occasions.

ParticipantNope, I’m across the street from the courthouse.

ParticipantYou could always lock up on the crappy wheelbreaker racks outside DOL (3rd & C) – they’re semi-sheltered and the guards can see them from inside so nobody messes with the bikes.
The 6th & C racks seem nice & secure though, I see the same bikes locked up there every day when I go past.

ParticipantClosest I’ve bike parked to there is 6th and I, where they have a security guard and cameras pointing outside the synagogue. I don’t remember the area being particularly bad if you lock up properly.

You can watch his bike next week! You’ll promise to keep it safe, right?

This is why I love these forums – a basic question about parking recommendations gets everyone offering a bit of advice – thanks everyone, I feel a lot better about riding down and parking there next Tuesday.
And, if I get dismissed from the jury panel early, you know what I’ll do?
I’ll make sure that I secure Team V’s lead over everyone else in the Freezing Saddles competition by riding a century on a Tuesday!!!

We’ll have our own maniacal laughs when you get stuck on a sequestered jury.

Still trying -in vain- to find a GIF of someone riding a bicycle around a court room a few hundred times. Guess I’ll have to be the first.
