I hear there’s a ton of unused parking on King Street.

Sorry, that’s not helpful, but I couldn’t resist.

There are a lot of neighborhoods along the trails in Arlington (Custis, Bluemont, W&OD, Four Mile Run) that have free on street parking. I don’t know how far you’re going, but those might put you 4-5 miles from work.

    Afternoon all,

I commute in from Poolesville, MD to Alexandria each day, and to say the least, it sucks. What I would like to do is drive in, park along my route and finish with a 4 or 5 mile ride into work. Does anyone know of a spot to park during the day without needing a public lot? Do any WABA members live in the Old Town area that wouldn’t mind a car parked outside their residence? I thought of the Marina but pretty sure the park service wouldn’t like my idea. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hmm, it may be worth checking the signs for side streets back off 4MR Trail/Glebe Rd back near say the Giant. I think that would you get you around 5 miles plus it would be easy for your commute driving wise too. Otherwise, a shorter ride would be to ride from Potomac Yards in. I don’t know how long the street parking is for it though to be quite honest. However, I don’t think it’s a defined time, at least not yet. The other option is you could drive past it and park in one of the slots just south of Dyke Marsh or in one of the neighborhoods back there, but that would complicate your ride home.

FYI: The Pentagon and Crystal City areas are a no-go since they both have restricted on street parking limits.

I know someone at work who parks in NPS lot below all day for free (it is parking set aside for visitors to the Jefferson Memorial but hardly anyone knows the lot is there so no one uses it). The downside is you would have to drive across the 14th St bridge but it is easy access to the Mt Vernon trail and Hain’s Pt.

That’s my go-to lot when family is in town and they want to go see the sights!
