ParticipantAs far as I know, some racks are designed for two stays and some are designed for one. You have the former and need the latter.
I rigged a single stay on my beater with a two-stay rack, but I wouldn’t recommend it either aesthetically or for strength.

Most knowledgeable cycling folk… as many of you know, I have recently acquired a new bike that, despite my resistance in the summer, will have to mount a rack for the fall/winter/BAFS riding season.
It turns out that my new whip (a Jamis Renegade) has the traditional two mounting spots on the lower rear triangle, but as opposed to a more traditional “two places to screw the rack attachments on the upper rear triangle” has a mounting hole on what would be called the rear brake bridge. I need to find a doodad that would enable me to attach the rack (a traditional Old Man Mountain) to this rear brake bridge.
The best image I can find is that of a review on road.cc of an Ortleib bag – check out picture number 6 in the link (turns out that it is on my exact bike).

Anyone know where to find this? Haven’t had much luck on-line.
I am about 95% sure I have this adapter thing that came with a rack I purchased and didn’t need b/c my bike(s) have the mounting points on the upper seat stays. I can bring it to FCC tomorrow. I’ll at least take a look at it tonight and take some pics.

To replace your seat post clamp
OR

To attach to your seat post but still keep your seat post clamp. Probably more necessary for MTBs that have very short seat tube lengths with long seat posts.

ParticipantThe Salsa adaptor is the answer. My Diverge is carbon so I thought I couldn’t have a rack. FreshBikes told me no worries, we can make it work and it does. I have the Topeak rack for disc with the Salsa adaptor and it works like a charm. Another option is the Thule Pack ‘n Pedal which simply clamps on to the seat and chain stays. http://www.thule.com/en-us/us/campaigns/thule-pack-n-pedal/thule-pack-n-pedal

The Diverge is one of the bikes I’m looking at as a possible next bike. I heard though that if I want to use a rack for carrying panniers I have to make sure the chain stay is not too short and that the weight of the pannier(s) is centered over the rear hub or in front if possible, because if it’s behind the hub, “fishtail” behavior is possible.
I take it the bike handles just as well when loaded with panniers?

Cool. The Diverge stays on my potential N+1 list then (more likely the aluminum version).
Thanks!

I found this adapter that attaches to the rack and then the seat stay bridge. I don’t need it if you want it. I actually don’t need the rack either if anyone’s interested.

ParticipantAdd another +1 (is that +2?) to the Salsa adaptor. I had to use it for my road bike with a Transit rack, and it’s still working quite well.
