Yea, I generally don’t get too worked up on the decisions NPS has made in that area (such as the squared curb cuts and crossing situation), but that cone was in about the worst location possible.

ParticipantI was in communication with the NPS about the shifting cones yesterday. I noticed the cones had returned on Monday. Hoping to see them returned to their place along the back line soon. It would appear the message has not consistently gotten down to the officers who park there.

ParticipantFriday the cones were absent….. so some tourists decided that the curb cut was an excellent place to park and off load. They looked bewildered when I suggested to them that it was not the best place to park.
A voids must be filled. If a space is devoid of cones, it will be filled with an even lower life form: tourists.

ParticipantI’m pleased to report the cones had shifted back to the rearward line of the crosswalk. Thank you NPS and USPP!

ParticipantIf I were a police, I wouldn’t want the unwashed masses to see me get out of my personal vehicle in uniform. I’d park at police HQ 1/4 mile away from the Memorial.

ParticipantThe cones have crept forward once again. Like a damned game of “whack a mole” they keep coming back. Let’s give it a day or so to see if the leadership picks up on it and then I’ll take another run at the windmill.

ParticipantThis morning around 6:45am there was also a police k9 unit parked there, (haven’t people been ticketed b/c they were salmoning instead of using the sidewalk?) but it looked like their primary focus was to inspect a sewage tanker truck for security purposes. I didn’t look at the car too closely so I didn’t see if it was NPS, or SS, or someone else.

My heart goes out to the K-9 working dog that has to sniff around a sewage tanker truck.
I got pulled over and received a formal warning for salmoning a year or so ago. At the time, it seemed the USPP officer that stopped me was a bit unclear on the fine (that I didn’t have to pay because I was only warned).

Clearly you have never met a dog. Mine would be as happy as a pig in… something or other.

ParticipantNo cones today. So of course the tourons were using it for the loading and unloading of passengers.
Male announcer: The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in the red zone.
Female announcer: The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in the red zone.

Female announcer: No, the white zone is for loading and unloading. There is no stopping in the RED zone.
Male announcer: The red zone has always been for loading and unloading. There’s never stopping in a white zone.
Female announcer: Don’t tell me which zone is for stopping and which zone is for loading!
Male announcer: Listen, Betty, don’t start up with your ‘white zone’ @#$% again.April 3, 2013 at 1:40 am #966383sjclaeys

The cones were blocking the ramp today earlier at 6:30 pm.

Me thinks the tourons or the touron transport devices were obscuring your view of the cones. They were there this morning. Tis the season to use the Case Bridge – Buckeye – Ohio – 14th St Bridge alternate route.

ParticipantWhere are the cones in question?
I’m talking about the cones on East Basin Drive, due south of the Jefferson Memorial, that have previously been in the driveway to the memorial at the curb cut from where cyclists salmon from on East Basin Drive > Curb Cut in the Jefferson Driveway > onto the sidewalk going east along the sidewalk. This is the eastern driveway / curb cut to the jefferson.
Me thinks we are talking about two different places??
