ParticipantNow I really do feel ashamed. I was up then and opted for the car to go to the boathouse because I didn’t want to be sopping wet at practice. Ended up wet anyway because the Potomac was a bit rough and kept splashing over the gunwales…
AND, because I was in a car, I missed the opportunity to rip into the ass I watched mess up a car mirror trying to squeeze his bicycle between traffic waiting at a light and the parked cars—just so he could make an illegal (and very wobbly) right on red at a blind intersection.
If there is one thing that I hate about this time of year, it is the higher incidence of idiotic behavior that seems to be a natural by-product of more riders. Actually, it’s the natural by-product of more people generally, but I get annoyed about the cyclists in particular because the idiots then serve as poster children for what’s supposedly wrong with the rest of us who have a clue.
Done venting.

Hey, I dunno about that. I do the bi-modal commute thing, I will honestly say that there was more than one time this morning I wondered wth made me leave a perfectly warm and dry car. I think the homeless guy might have had it right!
Not to mention the space heater cooking under my desk trying to get my shoes dry!

ParticipantI hear ya. I wring out my socks over the plants in my office. Gray water management, how green is that?!?

ParticipantThe advantages of the late shift: I missed the rain (except for the puddles).
It’s amazing how many crazy and dangerous things you see at this time of the year. It makes me think of BikeSnobNYC’s descriptor “Beautiful Godzillas.” I don’t mean to be sexist; I see men all the time that fit the profile, too (if not more of them). I guess it is lucky something is protecting them from themselves.
As for drying out shoes, may I recommend this: http://www.dryguy.net/DG10.html

ParticipantIn-office space heater = indispensible bike commuting equipment.

Just stuff wet shoes with newspaper. Replace the newspapers a few hours later, if necessary. The newspaper can still be recycled, too.

As an aside – I saw something in the wee hours this morning I don’t think I’ve seen for a while.. the MOON!

ParticipantYou know you’re a bike commuter when…..
…your office starts to look like your bedroom closet.
…you’ve had to wear your cycling shoes all day b/c you left your dress shoes at home.

ParticipantI coworker stopped by my cube, looked around and asked “What you didn’t ride today?” I guess the lack clothing hanging all over my cube to dry (including helmet) is a tip off. It’s a bigger tip off when my folding bike is in the aisle.

ParticipantThe normal schtick in my office is:
Coworker X: Tell me you didn’t ride to work today!
Me: I didn’t ride to work today. (Oozing with sarcasm.)
Coworker X: Oh good. D’OH! You *DID* ride to work today!May 20, 2011 at 8:57 am #926030PrintError
ParticipantI had that exact conversation every day this winter, you’re so right!

That’ll wreck the line of your suit pants. Better to shower off and go commando. Scotland Forever!
Either that or just keep spare socks and shorts in the office.May 23, 2011 at 6:27 pm #9260985555624

I didn’t say you had to buy them, just get some copies of The Express from co-workers. Besides, old ones work well, too. I Keep a few sections under my desk, under my bag. I just looked and on top is the Outlook section from The Washington Post — back in November 2009.
