I haven’t seen our ELF man on the trail for the past few months. Perhaps the ELF is too hot in summer — or our schedules do not overlap anymore.

I saw the elf once this summer where I typically saw him last year – the stretch between Vienna and Hunter Mill, except this year the elf was orange rather than green. But it was the same behavior, going much too fast through the more crowded trail close to Vienna, weaving in and out of traffic.

Oh, I have only ever seen the orange one. I have seen him a couple of times this year, but was seeing him regularly last year. Maybe he is taking to the streets more, as would be appropriate. In any event, I am glad to be seeing less of him.

Maybe my memory of last year is faulty…wouldn’t be the first time. When I did see him this summer I made a point of looking under the car after it passed me so that I could see if he was pedaling, and I could. He was pedaling at a very high RPM, for whatever that is worth.

Saw him a couple of days ago. He was oncoming West as I was going East a bit past the Vienna community center I watched him ride right up onto the wheel of a bike in front of him and then sit on it. I did not summon up my little tiny bit of emergency use only Inner Dirt as I passed……
