[un-following jrenaut on twitter]….
Like Subby, I have in the past followed idiots on twitter just for those times I was in the mood to get in a fight… But I didn’t have the stamina to deal. Life is indeed too short.

ParticipantI don’t do twitter. The only place (other than local publicaitions) where I really follow bike hatred is on BikeSnob, where I don’t have to respond, because BS already has – and usually left me laughing.

ParticipantMy social media feeds are carefully crafted to ensure that I only receive information that confirms my pre-existing beliefs, assumptions, and hypotheses.

ParticipantMy social media feeds are carefully crafted to ensure that I bombard my “friends” with persistent political demagoguery, ramming my personal political persuasions down their perspectives ~ in a way I dare not in person ~ because I am assured this is what my “friends” desire – and by resiliently resharing what [Foxnews, Daily Show, HuffPo, Some Deranged Scientist, or Fergie] thinks ~ ~ ~ I am assured I am doing my part to make the world a better place.

ParticipantThe WashCycle occasionally posts about certain rabid bike haters from time to time. That’s about the only instance when I’ll think about this.
There are a lot of not-so-pleasant people out there, and not just on the bike hating front. Terrorists, murderers, racists, pedophiles, extremists and just plain jerks. I know they’re out there and it’s not good to ignore them completely. But the news seems to put an overemphasis on negative stories and people, so most of us get plenty of exposure to that sort of thing. No need to add to that in my own personal choices about social media, forums and websites. It’s possible to get overwhelmed by the hatred and negativity from any of those areas. That only leads to frustration, anger and, in extreme cases, despair, which doesn’t really help matters. If I read the drivel from rabid bike haters, I might get so discouraged that I would be afraid to ride outdoors. Fortunately, not everyone is as out there as the extremists are.

What’s wrong with pedophiles? I love to pedal.

ParticipantI just got back from the awesome Pro Walk Pro Bike Pro Place (#walkbikeplace) and FutureBike (#futurebike) conferences in Pittsburgh. Lots on the twitterverse from there. I was tweeting as @dasgeh, if you’d like to see the highlights from my perspective (though I missed the first day ;-(
