My kid’s baseball game was rained out, so I will be there – with at least one and maybe two 12 year-olds with me!

Bad news: the inimitable Rod Smith will be unable to attend.

Worse news: I, Brünø, will be taking his place and awarding the prizes he sponsored.

Awkward news: I won one of them. Unless you really want to see me try to award myself a prize (no, no you don’t), I’m going to need a volunteer who can muster an unusual amount of gusto.

This is sad news indeed. So who will stand in for Rod for the bestowing of the Best Snotcicle Award?

I seem to recall someone mentioning some bike parking near Cap City? I know the racks along that road fill up quickly, and there are only so many signs. Am I making this up?

Someone should make an app for that. http://www.bikearlington.com/pages/biking-in-arlington/bike-parking/rackspotter-crowdsourced-bike-parking-map/

And then someone should populate it while they’re over there!

LAST MINUTE ROUND-UP OF HAPPY HOUR INFORMATION

Shirlington has lots of bike parking (official and unofficial)! The parking map on the first post in this thread shows where a lot of it is located.

In addition, and not shown well on the diagram, the bus station, just up S. Quincy Street from Cap City, has U racks for about 21 bikes under an awning. There is also lots of bike parking at the library down the street near the Harris Teeter. Also, it’s fine to lock up to lamp posts (need a cable lock), so long as you don’t block where pedestrians walk.

If parking seems to be getting overly tight in all the obvious places, we’ll get one of our #BAFS folks with local knowledge to assist any who might be having difficulty finding a place.

Bikeshare and a major bus station are also available close by. There are two close bikeshare stations, one on s. Quincy Street across from the bus station, and one on S. Arlington Mill Drive across from the Hilton. Multiple buses run from the Pentagon to Shirlington. (The 7A, 7C, 7F, 7Y and ART 87X among them.)

Once you’ve entered Cap City, we have a private room to the left of the hostess stand. At the back of that room is an area where you can easily store backpacks, panniers, jackets etc. where they will be out of the way but accessible.

Please remember to bring $5-$10 cash per person to contribute for the shared appetizers. We’ll be collecting for that at the station where the award name tags are given out.

Beers will be at happy hour prices and our waiters have agreed to do individual checks for all 80+ of us. We have an awesome team of Cap City’s hardest working waiters, so please keep them in mind when you pay your tab.

Please let me know if there are any more questions I can help with. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

What? The answer my question is in the first post of The Official BAFS15 Happy Hour thread, the very thread in which I asked my question? How could I have EVER known that? I mean, who would even think to look there?

Anyway, thanks for gracefully answering my question after my complete failure to even try to find the answer myself.

Lol. No problem. I needed to supplement that info anyway!

I’m going to have to cancel – some urgent family business cropped up. Sorry I can’t be there.

I regretfully won’t be able to be there tonight. Bruno will be playing the part of Rod Smith, and I Eric Williams. He has said he will “stand on a chair” for me and “wear a fake beard” for Rod. Please hold him to this and take many, many, pictures.

I really wanted to attend and meet all the BAFS folks that suffered all winter long. I hope everyone has a great time! I’m looking forward to getting together with many of you in the future and will do my absolute best to remain active on this forum.

By the way, I realized today that the same people won both of my climbing challenges, this means they will likely end up drunk> to avoid this (if they choose to) they can gladly substitute beer for a product containing less alcohol. I would like to see everyone get home safely.

Or… They could donate some of their beer to me. 😎

Quick correction on the bus routes: 7E is not a bus that goes to Shirlington, but 7F and 7Y do as well as the 25A, 22A (takes a scenic stroll through Fairlington before getting there), and the aforementioned buses listed by Arlingtonrider.

This party crasher had to leave early but had a fun time reveling in BAFSers’ craziness. When leaving, I was impressed with the gaggle of fantastical bicycles locked up outside Cap City (and some folded up and taken inside).
