I volunteer you, Steve. You seem to meet the requirements (mean, jerky, unpersuaded by either reason or appeals to emotion, etc.).

    Hello friends,

Bike Arlington has again been remarkably generous and supportive to us crazy FSers. Unfortunately, none of them is able to come on Friday. So we need some help.

    – We need someone to go by their offices to get the scarves, jerseys and possibly other swag and bring to the happy hour

    – We need a volunteer to handle distribution of the scarves. There will be 50. You should either be burly or mean (or both), because people will try to steal them (I’m looking at you, rcannon!). I will provide you with a list of names which you may use to track recipients. You cannot be susceptible to sweet-talking. And you will need to attend to them throughout the happy hour; scarves left unattended will disappear.

    Thanks

I can pick up whatever fits in a large backpack – probably not all 50 scarves though.

I’m a pretty bitchy a-hole when I need to be so I can handle this task. Plus, I’ve finally obtained a scarf of my own so I won’t be tempted to steal one.

If I’m allowed to laugh at people who get up at Midnight to ride one mile just to get the 11 points for that day, I’ll be there. (How soon can I sign up for BAFS 2016?)

I can also help with a bit transporting scarves but am extremely susceptible to sweet-talking, and beer bribes.

You can laugh at the ones that don’t stop at one mile as well!

2.3 miles for 12 points, thank you very much.

Thanks! Okay, rcannon, please swing by and get the stuff. Tricky part is that BA may not know the jersey sizes by then (still collecting this info). Maybe they can give you a bunch, and we’ll return the extries.

kwarkentien – you are hereby dubbed BA Scarf Nazi. rcannon will have them and will bring them to HH. Count them carefully, as he is not trustworthy. You may want to recruit an assistant, since I know you will be awarding a pointless prize at one point. There will be leftovers, since I doubt all 50 winners will be there (they still get one; they just have to go by BA to pick theirs up later). We’ll need to figure out how to get them back to BA. I can probably carry them in my panniers, and I work near BA, so I can help with that part.

You mean you never did a midnight sleaze?
Then I recommend you try it next winter!

Those who have ridden in the middle of the night know what a high it can be to ‘own’ the roads when the car-drivers are asleep. Add to that the sense of utter absurdity of the pre-storm sleaze – the realization that there’s really no reason to be riding the night-owl shift aside from this silly game — and the midnight sleaze take on a special significance. I’d definitely do it again.

At least for someone in the “sandwich generation” whose life is about looking after children, parents, bosses, and others who need our care, there is something absolutely delicious about getting out there and taking a middle-of-the-night ride just for the pure stupid fun of the Freezing Saddles experience.

That said, if you’re not on my team next year then feel free to skip it. Sleep is important. :+)

Yes, and a word of advice, don’t ride Hains Point. It is boring and full of strange cycling characters. Especially after dark. Not advisable.

Except if you are on my team, of course. ;)
