Odd Kiosk Placement

I see a new Bikeshare kiosk is about to open in Falls Church, on the edge of the George Mason High School campus. I’m always happy to see more bikeshare kiosks, but I have to say this seems like an odd choice. It’s too far away from West Falls Church Metro to be of practical use to commuters, and doesn’t seem to be near anything else really (except the high school, which is going to be torn down sometime in the nearish future). I wonder if it has anything to do with FC City’s historic reluctance to support bicycle initiatives, including bikeshare? Or maybe I’m missing a key point that actually makes that site perfect for a kiosk? Or did some bikeshare planner just have a brain fart (it happens to all of us! )

You have Falls Plaza shopping center right there and then a bunch of retail on the other side of route 7. Seems like a pretty solid spot to me.

It’s not alone. CaBi is expanding into Falls Church with 11 stations, including the one you saw, one at WFC Metro, plus 9 other locations:

There is also a new bikeshare station at a corner of the Eden Center in FC. Its the far corner from the Lost Dog Kennel but hey its still a new bike means of getting to the kennel to walk puppers According to this article, the stations open Mon May 13 with a ceremony at 6.30 at C&D

Hmmmm.. Methinks a Tour De Falls Church Bikeshare is in order starting with some pancakes at Mike’s, some pupper walks and ending with some drinks at Clare and Dons.

Mmm. Just made my first-ever visit to Acme Pies on Columbia Piek this Sunday; had a quiche slice for breakfast, and got a pecan slice planned for later in the day — only, the pecan didn’t make it out of the shop either, as it turned out.
Edit: Huh – Just looked up Lazy Mike’s – I grew up a ways down Shreve Road, and remember when that building was the Arthur Treacher’s Fish n Chips; unless I’m mis-remembering the Long John Silvers — but I thought there was a Treacher’s there first, back in the late 70’s…
