ParticipantThe PA Ave cycletrack has improved, though, since last week. I forgot to post these (with pics) from Thursday and Friday:
I reported large and deep gaps in the cycletrack next to the concrete islands: https://twitter.com/bobco85/status/791633490504773632
DDOTDC then smoothed the transitions onto/off of each island: https://twitter.com/ddotdc/status/792049073553571840I can’t wait for them to repaint and replace those park-its!

…..coronation parade.
I think that’s only if one of the candidates wins.
Or maybe not.

ParticipantThe Powhatan St bike/pedestrian bridge over I-66 was closed this morning at 8:30 am. I’m guessing this means they are starting the repaving of the MUP on the north side of I-66 that goes est from there. The 4MRT repaving from milepost 0.5 intersection with the W&OD to Ohio St is done, nice and smooth!

ParticipantThe CCT this morning was easily the most crowded I have ever seen it, and lots of the riders seemed to be first time users. Not quite sure why now, all of a sudden, this is happening.

I ride the CCT northbound out of the city and have been getting very frustrated by the oncoming crowds…mainly because they seem to love riding two abreast and passing even if that means I have to ride to edge of the trail to avoid them. But, selfishly, it’s also because I have to stop behind almost every jogger to wait for an opportunity to pass while 20 oncoming riders pass by. I’m hoping that once the lows regularly get into the 30s this won’t be a problem anymore.

Greetings fellow northbound CCT riders! I have to agree with Crickey, the south bound traffic seemed busier than usual this morning, which is pretty amazing since I’m on it before 6 am. I get to Bethesda around 6:15-6:30.
I also have plenty of frustration with the southies. I cover my light every.damn.time. but so many southies are rocking 1000 lumen spotters and blind the crap out of me and just don’t even bother turning the light aside or partly shielding or pointing it down. I can’t imagine how busy the southbound traffic is when you’re heading up. I like the woman who always thanks me for covering my light yet doesn’t cover hers for a second?
grumble grumble grumble…

Oh yes! The CCT riders, more than any other trail riders in the area, seem to love rocking their giga-lumen strobes on the trail…WHY?? I can live with uncovered lights; I tend to be less-inclined to cover my light on the CCT given how rough the trail is, so I don’t want to take a hand off my handlebars, but strobes drive me bonkers…although not so bonkers that I point and yell at people.

SafeTrack surge 10, perhaps, which started Saturday? The red line is closed between NoMa-Gallaudet U and Fort Totten, so commuters coming from Silver Spring area might choose to ride down the CCT. This is an awfully nice week to attempt the bike commute.

ParticipantThat’s probably a factor, though most Silver Springers wouldn’t come that way-the GBT gets pretty rough pretty quickly east of the Park, and the entrances are a bit obscure.

The overpass bridge was open this evening. I did not ride across to check out the repaving.

Does anyone know why there is construction on K Street underneath the Freeway in the block or two before the CCT begins?
I got curious enough to stop and ask one of the construction workers today. He says they are burying power lines so the electricity won’t go out when there are storms, etc. He expects the work to continue into next year.
