Heads up for those riding between Alexandria and National Harbor on Sunday as reported by Alexandria News https://www.alexandrianews.org/2016/09/road-closures-2016-woodrow-wilson-bridge-half-marathon-6k-on-october-2-2016/

    Thank you VERY much!

I keep forgetting to look for races before my Sunday ride and thus frequently come across them. I have yet to see one where they actually close a path, however, so this is a first. It would be better if they did detour folks for most. Last Sunday was a 20 mile run on the C&O canal. In this case at least, the runners were generally aware that there were others on the trail and kept to one side. The people at the race start/stop were not (“bicycles coming through, please share the path!” were frequent calls there). Other locations, they have been less understanding of sharing the trail.

A few weeks ago I triked the Anacostia River Trail. Below is where I turned back the trail suddenly turned into a rutted mess. Anybody know if the trail is now nice and smooth heading east from where I stopped? I’d like to take the ART to connect with the Anacostia tributary network but don’t want to ride over anything too bumpy in my trike.

    Thanks!

Totally finished now. The bridge and underpass at Benning Road is done and the trail in MD has been cleaned up and is completely open. Fear the turtle!

Does anyone know why there is construction on K Street underneath the Freeway in the block or two before the CCT begins?

Solely for the purpose of aggravating all the commuters who come off the CCT?

There was a smashed catsup bottle in the eastbound lane of the Custis on the Spout Run Parkway overpass. Beware of broken glass.

That can’t be it. I was aggravated, and being retired I am not a commuter. :)

As part of the Beach Drive rehabilitation project, there’s a new detour in place for the path between Bluff Bridge (just north of Piney Branch) and the bridge over the creek south of Peirce Mill. The path is closed and all users are directed onto the road. This segment, more or less

Forgot to report this earlier, but utility work (I think) is blocking a stretch of the shoulder of Rt. 123 westbound between Kirby and Basil Road, forcing riders to take the lane…which is, uh, not fun on a 45mph speedway.

This may not count as road / trail conditions per se, but 7 dead mice on the MVT near DCA and Gravelly Point this morning.

I assumed this was the result of rodent control. Or perhaps they need better lights and reflective tape if they are going to be out on the bike paths that early after sunrise…

The Madison Manor Trail (4MR section alongside I-66 just east of the Brandymore Castle hump) is being repaved. Currently closed off.

PA Ave. cycle track today…what a mess. The pavement is almost entirely redone, which is nice, but the alignment of the lanes is totally f%&$*d.

^^^Good god. I despair! For heaven’s sake, we just got those zebra humpy things to stop the Crazy Ivan drivers. It will probably take forever for them to be reinstalled.

I don’t recall PA Ave being in need of a repaving. Sigh. Must have been done in anticipation of the upcoming coronation parade. Let the cyclists eat cake….
