Having always wanted to bike NYC, I dove into the deep end and registered for the NYC Century on Sept. 9th. It looks like a hoot, hitting almost every NY nook and cranny (which may not be a good thing). To be the ultimate poser I will most likely be riding my fixed gear (IRO) which I currently only use for my 20 mile commute. I undoubtly will be regretting miles 21-100 very quickly and most likely will end up at Jimmy’s Bar by 10:00am. It is either the IRO or my speedy carbon which will crack on one curb and won’t make look any less a poser (my typical NY dalema, what to wear to fit in). Anyone have a Varsity I can barrow?
But seriously, Anybody ever do the NYC Century before and could give my some pointers?
    Thanks

looks like they give you 12 hours to finish. If you can manage 8.5 mph, you’ll be fine. I’m sure there will be a lot of other fixed gear riders, and I know Dirt has done many fixed gear century rides. You’ll be fine. Enjoy!

It was a fun ride if you get the chance. I would put in the category of the 50 States ride. Good sights, many neighborhoods, but not too serious. Very diverse crowd, Cervelos to Huffy’s.
Btw, easily done on a fixed gear. Only a few very doable hills. I sometimes forget how many hills we hit in Arlington on even the shortest commute.
Beside, getting some real pizza was worth the sweat.

Huh. Sounds like a good alternative to Bike New York.
