Hi all, the wonderful folks at Arlington Parks and Recreation who take such great care of the Custis Trail for us shared this message with me today:
“Vegetation management is scheduled to occur on the Custis Trail From GW Parkway to Kennebec Street starting Monday November 6. Work includes: cutting back vegetation along the trail edge, fence lines, fixtures, and storm drains. The project is expected to last for 5 days. There will be a small crew of 3 people working. The trail will remain open during the project, so use caution in work areas.”

Keep your eyes out for folks working on the trail starting next Monday!

As of this morning, the new pavement on the ART between Armentrout road and the Bladensburg marina is finished and smooth as a baby’s butt. I think they removed both bollards from underneath the bridge, but I was so entranced by the fresh pavement I didn’t even notice and didn’t stop for pictures.

Rode it this afternoon. There is still one bollard under the bridge.

The new pavement is nice. There were a ton of root bumps before. It felt like the trail was widened slightly but that could just be my imagination.

The wind has blown down a tree over the Custis Trail just after N George Mason Dr, the tree is resting on the barrier wall over the trail and some branches are hanging down but it’s passable.

I reported it this morning since I saw it on my way in. I used the on-line reporting tool.

Yeah, I emailed the Arlington Trails link in the sticky at the top of this forum and got an auto-reply saying it would be forwarded on.

The downside of light downtown traffic is that it lets people do more stupid things. Had two oncoming drivers do u-turns in front of me and peds are randomly walking across the streets. I now actually wish that there was more traffic. Be extra aware today.

About a month and a half after being first used, the Bikeometer at The Wharf is not functioning.
