Did I pass you this morning on 4MR on a single speed between W Glebe and Mt. Vernon Ave? Those handlebars look pretty distinct.

I assume that was for me; no, you certainly didn’t. Those handlebars are now on my newer commuter (which has an IGH) though, so maybe you’ve spotted me from the non-drive side at some point.

That, or it would seem I have a crazy-handlebar-brother to hunt down.

I tend to think a MTB would be better too, but the reason I like having a CX is the versatility. It’s more than enough for more commutes, can ride gravel, and a little singletrack decently (with the right rider). If I happen to get a replacement 26″ fork for my beater MTB in time I could use that.

Was it this bike (2012 Jamis Sputnik)? The guy was riding fixed with pedal straps, had a messenger bag, and was helmetless, if that helps identification – I saw him leave the CCBID stop.

Yeah, for me it is primarily a question of versatility. I do agree the mtb is faster through the park, but the cross is a nice challenge. I remember fondly having the luxury of driving to ride (mountain) bike. I don’t have time for that now except on rare occasions, so riding to the ride is a general requirement. The ‘cross bike does great (especially contrasted with my SS 29er mtb, which is my only trail-dedicated bike now).

ok. Against what probably would be the better judgement of a reasonable person if we had one of those around:cool:, I will join you.

I’ll run fatties on Viaje. Picking up some new Clement X-Plor 40s from Bikenetic this week!

Sounds like fun! I’ve been waiting to introduce the Black Battleship (Trek Cross-Rip) to an off-road/gravel type ride since I bought it in November, and the 40-miler sounds about right! My problem now is trying to decide if I’ll be healed enough in 2-weeks–my guess is probably not, especially not for a rough ride. If so, I’ll just have to catch the next one!

Looks like I might be in for the 40 as well. Loafing along on a nice squishy 29er to help hide my trail n00bishness.

Cousin, Wife and new baby are coming in from the West Coast, ensuing brunch of course will be on June 1. So much for me. Oh well.

Done and done. Now to toss multiple coins on deciding which bike I bring – will it be the big comfy overlander, or the whippy and delightful purple dinglespeed?

Ah, biking. Come for the exercise and the getting-to-places, stay for the gear-obsessing.

Ok, if anyone is not going to the NoVa Epic on June 1, consider being a bike marshal for the ADA Tour de Cure from Reston Town Center. I got the latest list of assignments and it looks like they could use some more marshals. I’m sweeping the 108 mile route.

Ok, bumping this. Don’t forget Nova Epic on Sunday June 1. I’m in for the 40 on the Viaje. Coming from Falls Church and have space for another bike if anyone wants a ride. See you at the start in Lake Fairfax!

    Me me me!

I thought long and hard about biking the 13(?) miles to the start, but this is more appealing.

Want to start at 9? last year we started too early for the stops and finished before they tapped the keg.
