While perusing the Bike & Pedestrian Counters page http://www.bikearlington.com/pages/biking-in-arlington/counting-bikes-to-plan-for-bikes/counter-dashboard/ , I noticed that a couple of bike counters are either not listed or have no data after a certain date. Considering we will be in SafeTrack season for the next year or so, I am a bit concerned that crucial data regarding cycling could be missing in certain areas.
I have not looked at all of the bike counters, but here are a few of the problem ones I’ve found so far:
- Bike counter name – Location – Description of problem
- Potomac Yard Trail #2 – (Alexandria) Potomac Yard Trail across the tracks from Braddock Rd Metro – this one is not listed and hasn’t been working ever since installation in 2015
- Crystal SB bike lane – (Arlington) Crystal Dr just north of 23rd St S – has been at 0 since mid-October 2015
- Crystal NB bike lane – (Arlington) Crystal Dr just south of 18th St S – has been at 0 since mid-October 2015
Does anyone have any updates on changes/updates/fixes that are on the horizon for this?
The PYT Counter #2 did not function in that location. When I rode by yesterday, it looked like the post with the data logger has been taken down. It is scheduled to be relocated to a location on the west end.

ParticipantAnother one that seems to have gone missing is on the Washington side of the Anacosta riverwalk just to the East of the Sousa bridge. Just before you go over the bridge for going over the rails.

Is someone passing this info on to the people who need to know? (ie. Dave Patton).

Top Men report:
“Safe Track reporting is very much on our minds, and is not dependent on the public dashboard. It is difficult to keep the public dashboard completely current all the time. It is important to recognize that the loggers usually continue to collect and store data even if they are unable to communicate with the server by modem. If the server is not updated, the dashboard is not updated.
• Crystal NB is back in service. I don’t know why it is not populating the dashboard automatically via FTP.
• Crystal SB has been abandoned. The loops were ground up in street paving, and the logger will be relocated to one of the PBLs on Eads. We will get a new counter for the other side of Eads.July 11, 2016 at 3:43 pm #1055117lordofthemark

I’d be happy to, but I don’t know Mr. Patton or anyone else that might want to know.
If you have a contact, let me know and I’ll be happy to pass it along.
