stop teasing, what was it?
I’ll write about it at some point today. It would derail this thread in a way that wouldn’t be fitting with the mood.

ParticipantTo assist you in tracking your new year’s resolution promise, Strava has introduced a new feature.

ParticipantI just passed the 4000 mile mark on my ride to work this morning, the first time I’ve reached that milestone. A few years ago I was about 100 miles shy of 4000, but couldn’t get the extra miles in when we got hit by the big December snowstorm.

ParticipantI’ve been biking DC for about 3 years now but only recently discovered this forum. After quite a bit of forum-lurking, I thought this would be a great initial thread to make my first reply.
My daily bike commute from Clarendon to DC is about 8 miles roundtrip, add in longer rides on weekends plus a few centuries and I’d like to get to over 3,500 in 2013. With Total 200 landing on my birthday next year, I might be crazy enough to give it a go!
I’m positive I must ride with many of you on the bike paths and on the L St. Cycle Track most days, so if you see a guy on a gray+bright red fixie, say hello!

ParticipantI managed 2,000 miles this year. Not bad for a guy carrying around 200 extra pounds.

Welcome! This thread is really a great place to start posting. I’m glad you started with it. Post a photo of your bike in the “Post pics of your bike” thread. http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?3333 I always recognize bikes long before I recognize people.
We ride the same route for part of our commutes, at least, so I’m sure we’ll run into each other at some point. Nice to have another fixie enthusiast on the forum.

ParticipantGiven my family and work situation, the only riding I do is commuting and my commute is only 22 miles roundtrip. The last 4 years I’ve got around 2000 miles a year give or take 200 miles. It kind of depends on what else is going on at home and work, how much I have to travel for work, other social engagements that take me out of the area, etc. 2000 is always doable for me.

ParticipantWhat a beast! It gets steeper as you go up. Ugh

That’s similar to my situation, though my commute is only 7 miles round trip. When I’m early or not busy I can sometimes take the long way and make it more like 15 round trip, and when the weather is a little nicer I’ll drag the kids around in the trailer.
From February until last Tuesday, I did 2097. I’d like to do 3,000 next year, and I think that’s a reachable goal.

ParticipantAt the end of the year I’ll be right over 6,000 miles cycling, 500 miles running and 100,00 yards swimming. (The running and swimming was really only just during the 6-8 months of lead up to Ironman training).
My guess is that I only did about 2,500 miles of transportation and the rest was fitness riding. After 2013 finally clicks over I’ll do some analysis of my fitness riding to find out some interesting stats like total elevation climbed, average heart rate and time spent at certain speeds. (Last time I checked, I think I had spent more than 15 minutes at 40+ mph, which for around here seems like a pretty decent amount.)
Next year, I plan to do many of the same rides I did this year, but throw in some longer off road races as well!

ParticipantI’m hoping to ride at least 1000 km outdoors in each month of 2013 (that’s just under 7500 miles). While I’ve exceeded that in most months for the past few years (over 11,000 in 2010, 11, & 12), with job related travel, I want to keep the basic goals realistic.
It seems like I’m in a rut as far as my longer rides are concerned and would like to get out and do new routes. However, the options are limited since I rarely will drive to start a bike ride. I’m looking at some of the PPTC ride start points to figure out how to get there by bike. For several it would turn a 30-40 ride into a century or more. Nothing wrong with that!

You’ve had some awesome miles the last few years, sir. I like the 1000km/month thing. Keeps it spread out over the year.

I see that Dave has found my hill. He rode up it much, much faster than I do.

Wow, I’m seriously impressed. Can’t fathom how you find the time.

ParticipantI always ride by time. Same thing with running, but I swim by distance. So I have no idea how many miles I rode last year, or how many I might ride this year.
I guess I could pull up the numbers on SportTracks. But I don’t log any early winter rides or runs. I try to take it a little easier then, just keeping in shape but not really working at any goals this early in the year other than swimming and strength training.
But I do plan to do more triathlon races this year. I only did one last year because both of my original goal races were canceled. I’ll do plenty of training, but all the rides will be marked by time.
