    Ah that’s easy: This:

    Plus Potomac Pedelars D rides.

I sent Santa a letter telling him that I have been the best of boys, and my dog has been the best of dogs. I am hoping that he might put it in his sleigh (I dont know nothing about it, but the trailer is sitting in a box in my living room. I have to act surprised when my wife gives it to me in 15 days :D )

I love the idea of knocking out another 5k in 2013, and I think it is doable, so long as I stop hurting myself. Otherwise, 2013 might be frame upgrade time, or some new wheels. I have some Rolf Vector Pros from 1999 that won’t die.

If you put much stock in the Strava Suffer Score, Kill Bill this year was the 6th most challenging ride of 2012 for me. Part of that was because I kind of held back a bit since I was the ride leader and kind of HAD to finish it. Interestingly enough, the ride with the highest suffer score for me was Jeremiah Bishop’s Alpine Gran Fondo.

Strava Suffer Score doesn’t have a way to take into account the mental side of things. Hardest day on the bike this year by quite a bit was Ride on Washington Day 1 (Boston to Hartford). It was 38 degrees and raining most of the day.

2013 has a few that are going to be brutal.

    • Dirty Kanza200 (200 mile dirt road race where you are not allowed to use a GPS and don’t know the route ahead of time) — From where I am right now this ride is virtually impossible. I did a 140 mile gravel grinder a month ago and I’m pretty sure I didn’t have anywhere near another 60 miles in my legs.
    • Total200 fixie (Proud of this year’s Total178 fixie, but I have unfinished business) – It comes 3 weeks after Dirty Kanza. That may sink the Total200 ship again. Gotta try though. :D
    • Private Idaho (100 mile dirt road GF with TONS of climbing)
    • Chupacabra (100km mountain bike race in Juarez, Mexico on the MTB tandem)

No Ride on Washington this year. I’m okay with that. Prepping for that so early in the year was very, very difficult and probably contributed to me getting sick and overworked leading into Total200.

Who’s your partner in crime/insanity on this planned MTB tandem?

Kansas, Maryland, Idaho, Mexico…somebody’s racking up some frequent flyer miles this year. Either that or spending a lot of time driving across country

Can’t remember if I had a mileage goal for the year, but I am over 5400 now and will finish just short of 6000, most likely.

However, each year I try to do something new, and this year was no exception. I did the Crystal Ride early this summer.

For 2013, I’ve signed up for the Total 200 — not sure if it will be 200 miles or 200 kilometers; we’ll see how the training goes. I am also leading the scouts on the C&O Canal towpath from Cumberland to DC. I might be getting to two new states I have never been to next year, and if that happens, they are both excellent places to ride, I am told.

Other than that, I’ll put the perennial “learn how to mountain bike better” on the list again, and continued domination of Strava segments where no woman has gone before me.

    Liz

EDIT: P.S. I really enjoy reading everyone else’s goals and the interesting places they are going to visit! Looking forward to the ride reports.

France and Italy are in there too, but I don’t have specific ride events there. I just ride with the club that adopted me. It is a bunch of 60-70 year old men that love kicking the butt of a fat, lazy, American.

Ride more. haha. That shouldn’t be too hard, since I got just a little over 2k this year, and I didn’t start riding “for real” until end of April.

Also, my son and I are planning some camping trips up the C&O canal, so one resolution is to see just how far I can get up the C&O.

No set goals, but I was thinking of biking down to Charlottsville-area and back at some point. Just time-consuming and I have some big things coming up next year to deal with so I’ll probably just get in my commuting miles and some extra rec miles or tag-on commuting I do. Maybe make it a goal to tag the loop on once a week instead of just nice weather days. Also, on my goals list, not to get irritated by no one calling passes on MVT :).

I damaged myself twice this year and did basically no biking Jan-April and then again in October- will tick over 4500 this week. Would like to do 6,000-7,000 next year including:

750 miles(+) in any single month
Tow kids more than 300 miles
Get into top 10 in any SS MTB race
Do 200 miles on my FS MTB (all of 6 miles on it this year- I never ride it unless I’m going somewhere worthy so this is basically a “do harder stuff” goal)
Get average cadence (on any one bike) up 5 beats
    Keep weight over 170

I had planned a 2-day, down and back to Charlottesville for this year, but I never got around to it. I never really felt up for two-125 mile days in a row, or ready to deal with all the traffic between here and Quantico. If you do that next year I’d love to see your route.

I recently mapped out a 200 mile route up to my parents’ house in central, PA, which I’d like to try in 1-2 days, and in addition to doing several brevets with DCRand next year I’m hoping to do some brevets with other clubs too. The Eastern PA randonneurs do some interesting routes, or maybe combine a trip to see old grad school friends in Columbus, OH with a 200K or combine a visit with my brother in Minneapolis with a Great Lakes randonneurs event. I really enjoy riding around these parts, but the chance to explore new areas sometimes makes all those stop signs on W&OD training rides worth it.

Years ago I rode a mountain bike tandem with a friend who is a triathlete. He doesn’t like mountain biking on a single, but LOVES riding the tandem. I’ve ridden with at least a dozen different stokers (the person on the back of a tandem) and J is by far the best I’ve ever ridden with. He’s amazingly smooth on the bike and the two of us communicate very well together.

As of right now, I’ve got a reasonable amount of the parts for the build. The frame will likely not be ordered until after the holidays and might not arrive until March. They take a little time to build.

In 2013 I want to add one more over what I did this year:

    Six triathlons
    Three 10Ks
    Four 5Ks
    Two open body swims
    Two Masters swim meets

And I’ll volunteer at two WABA events and two FABB events.

Goals?? We dont need no stinkin’……. NM

    I’ll hit 5k miles in the next week or so. My annual upgrade seems to be 250 per year so;

    5250 miles
    Total 200
    any 200 k+ rando event.
    More Sunday/Social rides
multi day event (bike VA or Great Allegheny Trail or something similar)
Jeremy Bishop (again, this is my favorite ride at this point.)
more hard weather riding, fewer excuses.
More active participation in WABA and Bike Arlington events

I think I set myself 3k for this year based on doing about 1250mi in 2011, mostly in the second half of the year. I think I should hit 7k.

I don’t really have any goals for next year. 2012 has sort of been my “freshman” year as a “serious” bike rider, and I feel like I’ve already come “full circle” on some things e.g.
    – I enjoy commuting on my single speed more than my road bike
    – I may enjoy riding gravel more than road
    – Miles aren’t really that important
    – I look forward to riding in snow or ice on studded tires

I will probably buy a license and try to do at least 6 races. I’ll also try not to break any bones, etc. and try not to buy more than one new bike. A rando event would be fun since I’ve never tried one and endurance is not my strong point.
