For years I’ve gone to waba.org then clicked on the Forum link to get here. Just tried that tonight for the first time in a couple weeks. New web page design, no obvious link to the Forum, even when I navigated a level down through all of their menu items (e.g. the Resources page, the Stay In Touch page). Was there a considered decision to sever the linkage?
Hopefully that’s just an oversight in the web page redesign process. I think it’s a loss if WABA is no longer willing to advertise the forum. Folks who get pulled to waba.org by all the WABA outreach won’t learn that there’s a great online community that’s freely accessible for asking questions and learning.

I think Arlington plays the biggest role in the forum in terms of reading/commenting involvement (out of Arlington, DC, Alexandria, WABA). I’ll pass this along to the folks at WABA so they’ll see it–hopefully it was just a simple oversight.

ParticipantI already heard back–it was just something they missed and hope to get corrected this afternoon!

ParticipantSpeaking of which, even though it happened quite some time ago, it’s harder now to explain to people how to find the forum from the BikeArlington. I think used to be on the main menu on the left. Can it be put back there?

Which exactly are you thinking of? The homepage on BikeArlington.com currently has a whole section on “Latest Forum Threads” and a link to the site on the right hand side.

ParticipantWhile I think WABA should definitely have a prominent link, I would suggest telling people to Google “bike arlington forum” rather than depending on WABA or anyone else.

Why not just tell them “BikeArlingtonForum.com” or “WashingtonAreaBikeForum.com”?

Typos. If you go to bikearilngtonforum.com, you get nowhere. If you google “bike arinlgton form” you still get right here.

I usually just tell them to go to the WABA website because it’s so much easier from there. If I’m talking about BikeArlington, I tell them exactly what you suggest, but people sometimes forget all that and focus on the main menu and then tell me they couldn’t find it. It’s happened a couple of times. Not a big deal, but it was a little easier for new people to find when it was on the main menu. Suggesting that they google “Bike Arlington forum” might be a better approach. Good suggestion there.

Agreed. I just tell people to google, because then they don’t have to remember very much. And when you are riding alongside, they are unlikely to pull out their smart phone and surf to the site.
All of these in a Google search will get you to the forum on the first link:DC area bike forum
bike forum arlington
bikearlingont forum
Washington dc bike froum
arlngton bicycle fomur
forum of bicycles in washington dc
crazy ass bike forum arlingnot
cycling in arlington message board

ParticipantI also tell them to google, in part because I run into enough people who aren’t in Arlington, and I don’t want them to think it’s just an Arlington thing. So I tell them it’s the “WABA forum” and tell them to google that. “washington area” is long and random enough I doubt people will remember.

Nice new design for the web page, by the way.
