Most of you probably never see this. There are two long indoor walkways in the Crystal City Shops that also serve as photo exhibit space (Fotowalk). It started off with photos from category winners from the Foto DC show a few years ago. Those photos would feature all sorts of subjects, from abandoned motels in the desert Southwest U.S. to hostile overseas war zones, fireworks at night in distant harbors, nature shots, weddings in different cultures, and more. In the spring, they would switch out the Foto DC photos for various shots of the cherry blossoms in DC.
After a few years of that cycle, they are changing it up. A few weeks ago, they featured photos from past editions of the Crystal Couture fashion show, leading up to this year’s event.
And then this week, they swapped out all of the Crystal Couture photos for photos highlighting the ACTIVE programs and facilities in Crystal City. This includes many photos of the Air Force Association Cycling Classic – Challenge Ride, the Diamond Derby/Phoenix Derby cyclocross event, Bike to Work Week, Capital Bikeshare, the 5K Fridays run races, the Crystal City Twilighter 5K, outdoor yoga and the Marine Corps Marathon.
The timing is good. Crystal City is about to kick off its bike season with the new Wednesday Night Spins. The indoor bike races start up in just a couple weeks. The 5K Fridays (run) series follows in April. Other bike events like Bike to Work Week, the Phoenix Derby and the Air Force Association Cycling Classic follow after that. (Yes, it will be warm again in the Arlington/DC area, with no snow or ice to be seen anywhere. Not tomorrow, but at some time in the near(?) future.)
I only recognized a couple of the faces in the photos. A couple of BikeArlington individuals are included, but neither Chris nor Zanna are currently on the team.
You can see the photos on the Crystal City Business Improvement Picasa or Google+ pages, in various photo galleries.
