Possibly the brake pads rubbing? Is it a rim brake?

Yes, and that’s a distinct possibility. I’m hoping its something like that and will check it out more when I get home. It was a little too cold and windy this morning to do it then. The brakes are working fine. I would be very happy if that’s all it is. A simple adjustment if so, right?

It’s just a little strange to me that they weren’t doing that before and I haven’t fallen or anything. Though that wind was pretty strong last night. ;-)

Depends why its rubbing. If the brake is just a little off, yarp, simple adjustment. If its rubbing because the wheel has a wobble, then its a wheel truing (still a pretty simple adjustment, just not of the brake).

Checking the hub isn’t too difficult. Just take the wheel off and turn the axle by hand. If it feels smooth and has no play or wobble in it, its almost certainly fine.

Also I’ve had squeaking where the rubber dust cap has become dried out at the contact point and a little lube around it has helped. It can be surprisingly loud.

Whatever solution may be required can’t result in you missing any days of riding from now until March 20. Also, anyone who says that the squeak cannot be immediately fixed is probably a saboteur and should not be trusted.

Well, arlingtonrider does have a backup … looks like we’ll have to have a midnight raid.

LOL – just saw this. Ain’t nobody gonna be touching my bike until after Thursday!

p.s. I think I figured out a minor thing that might have been causing the noise. Will check again tomorrow. Thanks for all the input!
