    Hey there everybody,

I just joined this morning as I have been looking for a local cycling forum to participate in and suck up any free time I have at work.

I am fairly new to cycling as I just started seriously last September.

I had my cheapish MTB stolen at the beginning of last summer (I had that bike for a little over a year and it had maybe 50 miles on it) so come September I decided it was time to get a bike to ride around Crystal City. I was just looking for something to get to the store and the mall and stuff like that. I bought a $200 single speed and found myself doing much more than just going to the mall and store. Next I bought a used Jamis and started pedaling a lot more. From there is was down hill for my wallet and all the free floor space in my apartment. In January I bought a Specialized Raubaix and than February bought a Trek mamba MTB. At one point I had 5 bikes in the living room of our 900sq apt. I have since sold the single speed and the Jamis. I have logged almost 800 miles YTD. I just completed the Crystal City Challenge with great personal success. I am now trying to find my next event to train for.

Thats a bit about my cycling. I am looking forward to talking with you all.

    Welcome to the forum!

If you are up for a challenge, try the 50 States/13 Colonies ride in September. The great part about that is if you join WABA you get an early crack at registration (plus you support the number 1 regional bike advocacy program).

Plenty of really smart and experienced cyclists here to learn from.

There are forum happy hours on the third Thursday of the month. Join us!

Welcome to the cycling vortex! A major time suck but in a good way :D.

Yup, sounds like you gotten bitten by the bike bug. If you haven’t already, get a hold of the area’s bike maps (usually available for free at local bike shops). The Arlington and DC ones are particularly good. Meetup.com has lots of cycling groups and most of the local bike shops have group rides every week (check their websites).

Be sure to join the Bike Arlington All Stars on the Endomondo.com website. It’s a national competition that lasts thru September. We are trying to beat Gainesville, FL.

Definitely come to the next happy hour on June 20 to meet the gang (location hasn’t been announced yet).

I live in Pentagon City so if you need any advice on routes just shoot me a PM.

Thank you all. I will try to make it out to the HH on the 20th.

I have gotten to know the trails fairly well around the area. I ride MT. Vernon all the time and take the to Curtis Trail and out to WO&d. Not a huge fan of Four Mile because of all the stops. Hains point is another favorite of mine because I can really work on cadence drills and sprint drills not to mention Hains point seems to always supply the wind in one direction for me as a training partner.

I’ll look into the 50 state challenge today.

I plan on taking part in some of the Sunday morning rides out of Revolution Cycles in George town along with some of the DCpaceline meets at hains point.

I know of some back routes out to Ft Hunt (near Mt Vernon) that you can take to avoid the MVT. Makes a nice change from the trail.

OK, I finally figured out how to make the route public. Newbie user, what can I say?

Im all about that. MVT gets a bit crowded starting at around 10am on the weekends. I nearly hit some unattended kid every time I’m on that trail.
