I imagine road work is different contractors/budget/etc.
I’m honestly not sure why they added this here at all. There are far more dangerous (at least dangerous feeling) intersections just west (Sunset, Sunrise, Whiele) that could probably benefit from these flashing signals. The sight lines are great at this intersection, the cars are going relatively slowly, and the cars typically stop for any waiting cyclists/peds.

Agree. Why here? as example the intersection just east of Gallows Rd. is a stinker. Parked cars block the sight lines. Just changing the parking so the cars are further away from the road would be both cheap and make a difference.

ParticipantI agree other intersections are bad, but I have had more close calls and bad experiences at Cedar Lane than at other intersections. I’ve also heard tell of more cars hitting each other at that crossing. All of that is anecdotal, though. I’m hoping that this installation is the first of many, to include all the other intersections mentioned above.

Thank you for being the glass-half-full voice in this thread. Any improvement should be celebrated.

ParticipantI agree that any improvements should be celebrated. I don’t think any of the intersections are terrible, I just haven’t had any bad experiences at Cedar Ln and I ride it twice a day for 5+ years now. I’ve seen numerous near accidents (and come upon accidents) at roads like Sunset Hills or Sunrise Valley. So based on my anecdotal experience it was a misdirection of resources. But it sounds like others have different experiences. I don’t really care; the improvements that would make a daily impact to me would be bridges over Gallows and maybe Wiehle now. As I don’t expect that to happen anytime soon, I am quite content with the status quo and just grateful to have a MUP to ride to work at all.
Edit: corrected speeling of Wiehle

ParticipantBridge over Wiehle or however you spell it would be great, that’s my least favorite W&OD road crossing. It’s probably too close to the intersection at Sunset Hills to have a crossing signal (in that it c/would cause a backup of traffic into that intersection).
Gallows is long and pain but when I bike I only have to hit it coming home, I can take the Sandburg shortcut heading in. Although I’m told there’s a shortcut down Sandburg to Cottage so thank you for indirectly reminding me to go look that up!
(WHERE IS MY NEW BIKE?)

No, I do not know the schedule.
A bridge for the W&OD over Gallows I do not expect in my lifetime.

And I passed through there just after a bike/car crash about 6-8 years ago (police already on site), which has fortunately been the only one I have actually personally witnessed along the W&OD in all these years.
