Does it cost anything? I like it. Although I make the opposite commute on my handful of trips to CP going from Metro up to CP on bike. Usually just lock it at Comcast Arena or somewhere that’s highly traversed with other bikes at it. Looks like a nice feature. Hope they add this to more of the suburban Metro stops.

Yes, there’s a small hourly fee. I think they’ve set it to be pretty small, 5 cents an hour in the day/evening, just high enough that people don’t abandon their bikes there! You have to buy a $20 farecard to get started, but that will last a long time at that hourly rate. I’ve attached the WMATA flyer I got that has more details.

I just re-read the email WMATA sent me — the official opening announcement is I think going to be in mid-May, but it’s open now for testing — sort of the beta version available to the public! My only issue was that it was hard to hear the attendant when a bus went past, which is pretty minor. Plus you can always call the 800 number if it’s too loud to hear through the machine while they walk you through the initial ID verification and photo.

Yes, the WMATA Bike & Ride facility at College Park is open for testing now – more details on how to sign up are in the brochure Greenbelt posted above, or here. Before we officially open, we’re trying to get feedback from a cyclist’s perspective to make sure everything’s working properly, and to see how we can improve.

So if you sign up and use the facility, let me know what you think! We are trying to learn as much as possible from this as we plan for the future.
