Just to be clear, if I bought the trick bike he used, I would be able to do all that stuff, correct?
That was way cool. Made me miss my old hood.

Danny is a rockstar. Just amazing what he does with two wheels. I saw a great video of a 5 or 6 year old who had seen a Danny video and was trying to emulate his hero… the kid was already doing stuff that would have the rest of us face planting regularly. Really inspirational.

Nothing against Danny, but that would be hilarious if 2 seconds into his ride he gets a tire caught on the trolley tracks and endos. The End.

Some of his other videos actually have bloopers in them. It shows that he has to practice each stunt carefully before mastering it. The video above is actually not his most impressive. It’s more sedate than his earlier ones. However, there was a reason. Danny explained that he had a sore knee while shooting this video, so he toned down the stunts a bit.

I really like last year’s “Industrial Revolutions” video, which includes more impressive tricks, as well as a blooper or two.

I tried a much simpler trick a couple years ago on my mountain bike. I merely wanted to hop a curb to get onto the sidewalk next to Columbia Pike. Seems like I didn’t get much elevation because the front wheel didn’t go over the curb. It smacked straight into the curb and knocked me off the bike. I wasn’t riding that fast but still fast enough to drive my knee straight into the sidewalk.

It was winter and I was wearing tights over my tri shorts. I still got a nasty road rash on my knee, but luckily, no broken bones.

How does he DO that stuff? SO COOL.

I can’t bunnyhop at ALL. Like not even a millimeter. :(

I agree Industrial Revolutions is one of his best videos.

Not to be too voyeuristic… but the video of Chris Akrigg falling down a cliff face and his recovery period afterwards was his most interesting for me.

If you’re interested in learning, I put together this photo tutorial a (very) long time ago: http://www.more-mtb.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6727

I had to hunt that down, and I’m actually surprised the photo links all still work! :p

Thanks for that, jabberwocky. I had surgery a couple of years back and have had to relearn a bunch of stuff I used to be able to do. I can’t remember when or how I originally learned how to do a bunny hop, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t think it through all that carefully. Now it’s been a more deliberate process (I’ve worked my way up to bunny hopping the expansion joint on Pennsylvania Avenue where it crosses Rock Creek Parkway). I’ll study this and practice some more. But I doubt I’ll ever get to jumping up on knee walls.

Oh cool! The photos are really helpful – I’ve tried watching videos but having each step broken down is great. I’m a lousy kinetic learner so I need lots of explanation :p

I could bunny hop a couple of feet when I was a kid, but my recent attempts have resulted in feet slipping off the pedals and back wheel barely leaving the ground. Maybe if I get clips or a lighter bike…

I bunny hopped one of the joists in the roadway on the bridge at M Street/Pennsylvania Ave. this morning. That is all.
