So, I needed to make a bike storage rack in my storage room and tried to mimic number 12 found on this site: http://www.buzzfeed.com/peggy/12-space-saving-bike-rack-solutions

I went to Lowes and purchased a bunch of parts in an attempt to try to recreate this. Here is a picture of it (please excuse the mess, I had just moved in):

I think I spent about $50 total. I think it turned out alright, but the main thing that I am not really satisfied with is how the bike actually interfaces with the rack. I was hoping to use some really big S hooks that would hang on the metal bar and then you can hang the wheel on the other end, but I couldn’t find anything like that at Lowes. So, I proceeded to buy some heavy duty metal wire and make a bunch of twists and turn. It works, and I have 5 bikes currently hanging on the bar. I don’t have much confidence in it and am looking for something better.

Do you have any idea on what I can use to hang the bikes on? I don’t want to spend much money on this (the 50 foot spool of metal wire cost $10), but would like it to be reliable so that my wife and kids can grab their bikes without fear that it may fall on them. It would be great if there is something that is somewhat adjustable for different sizes of bikes, but if not, I would be fine with just reliable.

Thanks,
-Nick

If yours is the same as mine (mine was from Performance Bike but it looks exactly the same) then these will fit – http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1023857_-1_400245__400245

We’ve made it to Frankfurt, and this time around I don’t have to store our bikes in the apartment. We are on a USG housing compound of 1950s low rise apartment buildings. This was originally military family housing for the HICOG (High Commission for Occupied Germany). Our building has six apartments and a large bike room in the basement (I think each of the 63 buildings has its own bike room). Our room has angle wheel tray racks for 20 bikes.

We also have a storage room in the same area and I will be keeping my better bikes there and putting the all weather beater bikes in the common bike room. I have a 2 bike stand similar to the Topeak B2, but made of wood that I am going to send from the States.

This will be for the road and gravel bikes, my Pugsley will probably stay on the floor. I will put some kind of hooks for the spare tires/wheels and want to get something to organize my spare parts and tubes since I will need to free up the shelving unit for household storage of boxes and infrequently used household items. This should leave enough room on the floor to set of the workstand and totally mess up the bikes by fiddling with them myself.
