ParticipantNot sure the best way to get in from Arlington, but I would take PA Ave to 4th SW. Left on I St SW, right on Half St SE, and you’ll hit the stadium. I’ve never been on the street around game time, though – I don’t know what traffic might be like.

ParticipantHaven’t had the chance to ride into Arlington yet, but I don’t live to far from the Stadium. Traffic is VERY congested especially after the game. So congested that I don’t think there would be an issue as long as you can do some weaving at slow speeds. May I suggest taking M street on your way out? To get across the river I take 12th street Bridge. Not sure what would be best for you since you can go north and have your pick between bridges.

On the way in – 14th St Bridge to Ohio Drive, take a right on Maine Ave until you can take a right on Water St in front of the Waterfront. Follow Water St to the end then stay along the waterfront path to the Titanic Memorial. Turn left and follow P Street straight to the ballpark. The bike valet is on the northeast corner of the ballpark.

ParticipantNot that DaveK needs endorsement, but I endorse his route anyway. I use it frequently.

ParticipantI’m working on a route from Arlington to Yellowstone National Park.
Oops. Wrong thread. Nevermind.
On topic: DaveK has a good route. I’ve used it often.

ParticipantThe funny thing is I’ve only ridden that route maybe twice when I’ve gone from work to a game. I live in the city and usually take the Circulator to and from the ballpark (or the Ugly Mug’s free shuttle).

ParticipantYou might see Tyler Clippard or Drew Storen out on the bike paths. Both of them often use bikes to get around the city. In one recent pre-game TV segment, they said that they enjoy riding around the National Mall in their spare time, to tour the monuments and memorials.
The two relievers are also apartment-mates. This MASN video shows Clippard in his bike helmet and Storen showing off his commuter bike:

Clippard won’t be at Nats Park tonight, however. He is the only Nats representative for this year’s MLB All-Star Game.

ParticipantBike Valet? How does that work?

ParticipantI didn’t know about the bike valet either. I found this description on the MLB/Nationals website:
There’s a special place for you and your bike at Nationals Park.
Bicycle riders can cheer. Nationals Park is bicycle friendly, with over 250 bike racks all around the ballpark.
For the convenience of our bicycling fans, Nationals Park offers a FREE bike valet located in Red Garage C at the corner of N & 1st Street, SE. Access to the valet is on N Street just left of the entrance.
The valet will be accepting bikes two hours before game time and will close 1 hour after the last inning.

ParticipantThe bike valet works great.
(Just padding my post count.)

ParticipantYes, the bike valet is the ballpark’s best kept secret. It’s the easiest and cheapest way to get to/from the park. You can leave your helmet strapped to your bike too, and no lock is required. It is free, but I usually tip the valets $1 per bike.

ParticipantBike valet works quite well, in my experience. I hope more people will use it, as I worry that low awareness/utilization will lead to it disappearing one day.

ParticipantSounds like we should have a group ride to a game.

ParticipantI scouted out the route today. Pretty straightforward on the way there. Had to take the bike bridge to Hains Point on the way back.
How safe is that neighborhood at night?

ParticipantThe bike valet is fantastic! I love it because you can leave your helment, lights, etc. with the bike. The valets themselves are great guys. I wish they could combine it with a bike corral for CaBi. For me, it’s actually faster to CaBi than to ride my own bike, and the docks near the stadium fill up fast. Would be great to know that I could just leave the CaBi with the bike valet and be on my merry way.
