Was riding across the Memorial Bridge this morning and thought I would take some pictures of the mega holes that have been slowly maturing over this mild winter. Sure the concrete patches are still there, but really try to savor the visible rebar, loose, pebble, and seemingly random traffic cone that doesn’t really alert anyone to the Main Event. I’m going to send these along to the NPS but I’m pretty sure they will say something along the lines of “Preliminary planning indicates road and pedestrian traffic surfaces are in need of life-cycle maintenance, thank you for your concern. But who knows, maybe they’ll, you know, do something.

They fixed a lot of them about a year or so ago when they added the “bridges” on the east side of the bridge. Since that time most of the patches have fallen apart. From what I understand, the bridge is in pretty bad shape structurally and NPS is working on replacing it or refitting the structural elements. The wood bridges are there to cover the most structurally deficient portions of the bridge which, conveniently, are under the sidewalks and not the road deck. I’m hoping for another patch program but I’m not holding my breath.

ParticipantFrom my contact at the NPS the word on the street there is that this is supposed to be repaired along with other major repairs to the bridge in this summer.

ParticipantThis probably isn’t NPS, but does anyone know what’s going on at the bottom of the squeezed-between-110-and-the-cemetery trail? Will it affect the trail? Will it lead to better pavement on the trail? More lights? At least reflective paints? Please, pretty please?

ParticipantComing across the Memorial Bridge this morning, there were a few people looking around at the bridge. It looked like they were examining the rough spots. I stopped and asked, and they said they were planning to repair the surface of the bridge, and it should be done “in a couple months”. Hooray!
Any chance anyone has more info on what’s going on by 110 on that trail? thanks!

Saw them too but I didn’t stop to ask. I think I scared the lady with my bell.
I think the construction is this – http://dom.com/about/electric-transmission/radnor/index.jsp

Thanks, but I don’t mean the fun along 10th Street. I mean the orange fencing and construction equipment along Route 110, at the bottom of the hill coming from the trail that goes to the Memorial Bridge. I’m worried they’re going to close the trail at some point, and for me it would be great to know in advance — I think I’ll take the TR bridge instead, so it’s a big detour.

That’s what I mean – click Construction Updates on that page and then scroll down til you see “JBM-HH substation site to Marshall Drive & Route 110 — In progress”
Quote:This work will take place on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall from the proposed Radnor Heights substation to Marshall Drive south along Route 110. This phase will consist of similar activities that took place during the first two phases as well as construction of the substation and façade on JBM-HH. Completion of this phase will also include pulling the cables into place for the entire 3.7-mile span of the project, “splicing” (joining) the cables, and final refurbishing of the construction sites.I think that’s what they’re working on now since it’s along Route 110 south of Marshall Drive, and in progress.

ParticipantI’m thinking that was a site planning team. I remember, about a year ago, there was a discussion of resurfacing the entire bridge – road and sidewalk.
