The National Bike Challenge has fallen on hard times. Apparently one of the major sponsors has dropped out for 2017. (I hope it’s not Cottonelle… I really want to build my dream TP fort). The NBC has established a crowd source fundraising site to raise $22,000 or the challenge likely won’t happen. Fundraising isn’t going too well so far, only 35 donors in 14 days with a total of $1,730 raised.

I donated $100 because the National Bike Challenge was one of the motivating factors for me to ride more and ride more often this year. I hope that other Washington Area All Stars will join me in making sure that the National Bike Challenge continues in 2017.

The donation page is located here:

They are saying they will still be around, but will allow syncing only from Strava. Of course, I don’t know whether their statement that will be around is assuming the success of their fund-raiser.

OH NO!!! I love the NBC! It’s my favorite part of the summer. Thanks for linking this Judd! I’ll see if I can contribute something. As the #1 team, hopefully the Washington Area All-Stars will be able to help.

Well with the holidays over I actually remembered to donate to this, however, it doesn’t look like its gotten far. The FB page seems to have devolved into a freak-out about Strava, which I can somewhat understand. (Strava can be intimidating, especially if you are accustomed to just manually uploading each day, as I was prior to 2016).

I hope they can get what they need. I can’t imagine its cheap to host a site that big, and actually re-do it so its not buggy.

some of us have joined their strava beta testing group already

but now they need more people on their beta website to provide user feedback and help them debug:

Thanks for the reminder! I joined both, and made a small donation. I hope they’re able to get it functional by summer!

They raised their fundraising goal to $60K though, and have less than $3K raised, which is concerning.
