Last year, the Washington Area Bicyclist Association was the “Advocacy Organization” for those of us in DC and the Maryland suburbs, and I think Bike Arlington was the one for Arlington. This year, neither of those is listed, although Fairfax Alliance for Better Bicycling is. Does anyone know whether there will be advocacy organizations for any of us not in Fairfax?
Since you’ve set up teams… Does the administrator of the Strava group have to establish the team or can anyone designate a Strava group as a team? Like, could I set up the Bike Arlington group (I’m a member on Strava) or does Steve, Kathy Lewis or Evil Steve (the three Bike Arlington Strava group admins) have to establish the NBC group?

I think anyone can import a team. But I’m not 100% sure, because I know several different people attempted to import the Washington Area All-Stars, and one of them may have been an owner/administrator.
However, even if you could import the Bike Arlington Strava group as a team, it wouldn’t be an advocacy group (and thus wouldn’t automatically include everyone from Arlington). That’s a whole separate process.

The NBC site says:
You may import groups from Strava that you are either and admin or an owner of. You must have at least one ride logged through a GPS device for Strava to keep the group. The group MUST be a ‘Cycling’ group.
Moreover, even if you could import the Bike Arlington Strava group as a team, it wouldn’t be an advocacy group (and thus wouldn’t automatically include everyone from Arlington). That’s a whole separate process.

ParticipantYeah, I was wondering that myself. Not being the owner of a group I’m not sure if they can select what category they put it in upon link up? Somehow folks are doing it. Monday morning there was no MSU group under schools, and by evening someone set it up and it was properly organized.

Yes, when you import a club, you select the category.
