ParticipantIt’s definitely a quirky site, but it’s been interesting. I don’t have Strava so I manually update twice a day, which with logging in each time seems to keep it relatively current. Each bike I have has a computer, but I don’t normally add up the different bike totals to see what I do for a particular week or month, so that’s kinda cool to see. No idea what the “silver” badge is for or why it gives me two different weekly record totals, but those are things I could probably dig around to find out if I cared enough.

I still enjoy it, even if things are different this year and I don’t get on the site daily–for the first time I’m not manually uploading and the lack of the Gainesville drama. Admittedly, the technical problems with the site have cast a pall on things. I used to get really exited watching the various leader boards, but now I never know it its accurate.
That said, part of what I love about it is seeing how far I come in a “season” and comparing it to previous years. It’s been the only consistent yard stick I have to measure my growth over the four years of riding. What’s exciting about this year, is now I know some of the people I’m riding with!
The site has gotten better and it does look better than last year I think, if not always perform as well. It takes about 6-12 hours for the leader boards to reflect your profile total mileage with the latest sync.

ParticipantLooks like the DC area didn’t have much luck with the NBC prizes for July, aside from someone named “J.J.” in Fairfax, VA who won one of those ripped-off NBC T-shirts.

Wisconsinites nearly swept it this month for the prizes. I’m still holding out for the year’s supply of TP, which I will use to construct a fort in my apartment’s living room. You will all be invited to play in my TP fort.

ParticipantThe Washington Area All-Stars now have 10 riders who have earned the diamond badge for earning 5,000 points in the National Bike Challenge. Ian Fingerman will become number 11 on his way home tonight. The All-Stars are currently number one in the nation, 133,000 points ahead of Omaha Velocity.

Way to go team.

Not to mention that our very own Bob James is 479 points away from achieving the double diamond badge for hitting 10,000 points. He’s currently in the Tenth in the nation trailing mostly behind people that are making HAMR attempts.

ParticipantI’ve been doing the NBC long enough now that in the summer my mom will occasionally ask about it. Before I’d update her on how Arlington/DC is doing, or which states are winning, but now that I’ve joined the All-Stars, it the conversation goes more like:
“Are you doing the thing with people riding bikes where the states and towns complete?”
“Yup.”
“How are you all doing?”
“Winning.”August 18, 2016 at 2:10 pm #1057736ShawnoftheDread
ParticipantIt looks like a lot of my July rides were double counted by the auto-sync feature with strava. It has me at 1900 miles for July instead of 1050. August seems fine.

The NBC leaderboard must have magical powers of anticipation….either than, or Consular rides *so fast* that his rides haven’t even happened yet…..(yeah, I bet this is just a time zone issue for NBC, but it is still cool….)

He’s just hot dogging. He is a Frankfurter after all.

ParticipantHow many riders are actually on our team? The dashboard says 410, but when I scroll to the bottom of the list, the last person is listed as #204. So that means 206 riders on our team have never uploaded a single ride.
And for August, the last name on the list is #126.
I wonder how our top 99 would do against Three Rivers Velo and MBSC. All along I’ve been impressed with their points per rider compared to us, but now I’m not so sure.
Hm. Interestingly, the last rider on Three Rivers is #106, so they must have dropped some riders to stay at 99. Or maybe only their top 99 are counted?

ParticipantI have a few rides in for the team but broke my wrist on July 5 and have been sidelined all summer. If the contest doesn’t end till the end of Sept (too lazy to look up the date) I should be able to contribute more miles to the team in a few weeks.

ParticipantI was super excited when I checked the site on Monday morning and saw that there was a good chance that I’d hit my mileage goal for this year’s NBC (2,500 mi). With an 80 mi training ride planned for Saturday, the Indianhead 100 on Labor Day, and 50 States the following day, it seemed like a sure thing!
Now that my bike and I have been forcibly separated, I’m not sure if any of that will still happen. Which in all honesty makes the whole ordeal hurt even more.
If nothing else though, thanks to Bikeeveryday generously loaning me his CaBi fob, I’ve been able to keep putting up some points everyday, but I can’t do the miles I want.

I’m sure among this big group of n+1 thee is someone who has an appropriately sized bike for you and will be willing to take one for the team.
