ParticipantNow that I’m on Strava from BAFS, I thought I’d use it to sync my miles to the NBC site instead of doing it manually as I did in the past.
However, despite the Strava sync showing all of my rides for the year prior to today, its not showing today’s rides. Is there an extra step I need to take? Or will it auto-update at midnight or something?

ParticipantIt also says “manual syncing not available at this time” or something like that. Apparently that’s incorrect, I believe the riders on the leaderboard manually synced their miles. I strongly advise against doing that because when Strava syncing is fixed, you’ll have double miles and the method for correcting errors of this sort (adding a ride of negative miles) isn’t working either. Let’s just ride, upload to Strava and wait for the website to get fixed.

ParticipantSounds good to me! I don’t want to be double counted. I’d rather add miles organically than subtracting them manually

I had to do the same thing. I joined mid-challenge last year. Does it always get off to this rough of a start with the website?

It was quirky at the beginning last year, at least for me. It also hasn’t logged my miles for today, but I presume it will at some point.

I did the same thing this morning and all my rides appeared (even the one’s in April that never synced). Yay!

This would never happen if hozn was in charge.

ParticipantSo I’m currently in the group thanks to my last few years participating but I have a question: Am I hurting the group more by staying in it when I’ll be dead weight for a good portion of the challenge? As of May 24, I’m off my bike for 8-12 weeks thanks to hip surgery. Once I get back on, it may still be a little time before I can handle the 28 mile round trip commute that I just signed up for thanks to buying a house in Fort Hunt. I’m guessing I’ll be back riding sometime in August, but it’ll likely just doing some Hains Point laps for a month or so while I build my strength back up.

My personal opinion is the point of this is to have fun, so don’t worry about being dead weight and join in if you feel up to it.
Good luck with the surgery and house purchase.

Absolutely not. All days and miles ridden by Washington Area All Stars team members add to the total. We are in the mega-team category with no cap on membership numbers, so the more riders, the more points, better the chance at beating Gainesville.

I believe we’re already in the largest team category possible so adding additional people has no negative effect.

ParticipantI am in, but didn’t really do anything, as it seems to have just started up again from my registration last year. All of my rides have synced from Strava.

Their website may be having troubles but it looks like it has the correct percentages for how seriously Rod takes bike transportation.May 5, 2016 at 10:53 am #1051652Rod Smith
ParticipantHaha! That’s the highest I’ll be ranked. I rode all day Sunday trying to get in the top ten (for a day) but came up a little short. I didn’t ride a negative distance but it felt like I was going backwards a couple times when I watched the group ride away from me. :p
