ParticipantYou haven’t signed up yet!? 😮
You’re probably already signed up. If not, it’s a good idea to get in now so you know everything’s working correctly before the challenge period begins. The website gets a little worse every year. Think of it as part of the challenge. We have a lot of smart people here so a difficult to navigate website should be to our advantage!
Seriously though, Strava is syncing correctly for me. Most of the leaderboards aren’t working yet but the national rankings for teams and individuals are up and we’re killing it in the pre-season with FOUR TIMES as many points as the second place team for the month of March!
Does anyone know Sylvie Mc Dermott of Herndon VA? I’d like to get her on our team. Calista Phillips of Frederick MD is a member of the Gainesville Cycling Club but she’s also in DC Randonneurs so maybe can get her.

ParticipantI’m in, and everything is syncing correctly.
How the heck did we allow a Gainesville cyclist to move to this area? 😮
It always amazes me that Gainesville records so few miles outside of the competition. Anyone who joins a team and uses Strava will continue to have their miles sync indefinitely. Presumably, being in Florida, they don’t really have a reason to stop riding in the winter. I don’t know whether they are all using something other than Strava, or not recording their rides all winter, or what, but it’s weird.

The web site seems far from ready. The main widgets on the dashboard page don’t work (for me anyway), although it seems to have successfully scraped Strava for my ride data through yesterday as evident in the calendar and summary table lower down on the dashboard.
It would be nice if they brought back the “Find Me” link on the leader boards (not that we’ll need it to find WAAS on the Team Leader Board).

ParticipantIt looks the actual Challenge does not start until May 1, so hopefully they will iron out the kinks by then. I went on to their web site yesterday, and got a message about this being a beta version of the revised web site.

ParticipantYes, beta! It’s going to be just fine. If you aren’t signed up, try it and let us know if there are any difficulties involved.
So… I see people I’ve ridden with, members of DC Randonneurs, who are already participating in the NBC but not on a team, on the leaderboard in fact, top twenty nationally, more specifically FIRST and FOURTH placed women at the moment for April! I’m wondering why without consulting anyone I imposed a restriction on where riders live to be on our team and thinking maybe we should open it up to anyone who identifies as a member of the DC area cycling community…
Calista lives in Frederick and just happens to be a member of the Gainesville Cycling Club! 😮 I’m afraid they’ll recruit her if we don’t! I had the good fortune to ride with her on the inaugural (test) ride of a 300k Eric designed. Oh she rode 378 miles in 24 hours on February 13th. The other is Emily Ranson of Bike Maryland who lives in Elliott City. I don’t know if they would be willing join our team but I think it would be awesome if they did…

Participant378 miles in 24 hours is almost 16 mph non stop! That is off the chart.

ParticipantYep! I THINK those listed as “RAAM” riders aren’t allowed to draft but I could be wrong about that. http://www.bikesebring.org/raceresults.php

ParticipantSigned up.
Let’s not be first losers this year 😎

ParticipantLooking forward to NBC again this year although I’m not impressed with the website development this year so far. Maybe they’re waiting until the last minute to launch some of the features from last year like searching individual ranks by name. I should be putting up about 45 miles in May 1.
Interestingly I saw something from a Gainesville rider that accused us of cheating by not limiting riders strictly to those living in DC.

ParticipantThey have members who don’t live in DC too. It’s not against the rules. Logging miles that weren’t ridden is allowed too. BUT WE DONT DO THAT!! Win or lose, we ride our bikes and have fun!

ParticipantI do wish that manual entries were prohibited especially since Strava is a sponsor. I have no doubt that there will be some suspect last day manual entries again this year. Hopefully we will get enough new riders that they will at least have to do a lot more work.

ParticipantFinally figured out how to link Strava, instead of mapmyride to NBC.

ParticipantI’ve been looking forward to this for MONTHS!
I’m usually super excited for the NBC (I think this might be my 4th year?) but this year is especially special. A few weeks ago we finally got my husband a bike. His first in about 10 years. He’s riding to work every day now and has just now signed up for the challenge! His commute is short, but it should be an extra 100 points a week at least!
My goal is 2,500 miles. 😎

ParticipantOur team isn’t on the leaderboard! Slackers! Who will be the first All-Star to log miles in the NBC? Haha
