Will sleeze rides help much? I can’t bike to work every day but I can get on and do laps around my block to get in a mile.
YES!!!
Because of the scoring rubric (20 points for any day you ride a mile plus one point per mile), you will make a great contribution. The All Stars ride, on average, fewer miles than the other two teams but we do so more consistently.
A long ride (say 35 miles) on Sat and Sun will net you 110 points where the five day short rider will get at least 105 miles (assuming just a one mile ride each time). Add a weekend ride in and you have the weekend warrior beat solidly.

But didn’t they at least announce what the Grand Prize would be, early in last year’s challenge?
I just got a reply back from National Bike Challenge in response to my question on their Facebook page about this year’s Grand Prize:
Hi Carol–no, we haven’t announced the grand prize yet. It will be worth the wait, we promise!

ParticipantThe end is near!
May that is, get your friends signed up for The challenge and on the all stars, that way we can get all of their points for the month. On June 1st their points turn into pumpkins.May 27, 2015 at 2:46 am #1030956Mikey
ParticipantAlso, upload all of your rides. unsynced May Miles are worthless on June 1st.

Is there a way to have Strava automatically sync up with the challenge? I have to manually sync them, which is a pain, especially because I forget.

you can use strava to log in to the NBC. Then select it as the primary ‘authorized app’ in the ‘edit’ section of your NBC profile.

Yes, but you still have to physically log into the NBC site and chose and reauthorize Strava EVERY TIME! NBC does not automatically pull from Strava until/unless you initiate a logon (even though my computer stays on all the time I don’t stay logged in) and authorize the app (again, and again, and again, and again…). Hey, it works but it would really be nice if it was automated, like Garmin’s autosyncing with all of the other fitness apps.

I have done this. I guess it just does not sync automatically.
Oh well, I will just have to set a reminder to sync at the end of the month to make sure all my rides/miles count.

ParticipantI have the same issues. And it doesn’t sync private rides, so I’m manually adding a few. Not sure if I can be bothered doing this all through the challenge – I think I’ve missed the odd mile or three already.

ParticipantIn my experience, you have to login to the NBC website and click “log miles” and then it will sync from Strava. No need to re-authorize or anything like that.

ParticipantIsn’t there a third party app that costs a couple dollars that will do it for you? Hozn?

I’m not aware of any apps that will automate syncing with the National Bike Challenge site. I used to use some that automated syncing Garmin miles to Strava and MapMyFitness. However, Garmin now allows you to connect both Strava and MapMyFitness directly, which eliminates the need for third party applications.
Here is information on connecting Garmin to Strava:
