ParticipantAnd for thee and me, it’s probably not even really a year’s supply. They seem to be using an average, which presumably overstates the amount men use and understates the amount women do.

Really? This at least confirms the prizes are real. I always wondered if anyone actually won them.

Well, I did win a water bottle two years ago.

Any sort of prize that’s labeled “year’s supply” of something is going to be a rough estimate, or a convenient number of boxes or packages. Like all those prizes on “The Price is Right.” I haven’t seen that show in a long time, but I remember that they would often have minor prizes like a year’s supply of toothpaste, laundry detergent or other household items. They don’t know how much detergent someone is going to use. The household might have just one person or it could have five or more.

ParticipantI won a non-GPS bike computer in a different online cycling contest. I don’t remember the name. I think it was sponsored by Quality Bicycle Products, the large bike equipment wholesaler. It was similar to the National Bike Challenge. It was free to anyone in the U.S. You posted miles like the NBC challenge (I think). They had a lot of prizes available through QBP, but the contest didn’t seem to be that popular. I started a small team. (Not on this forum, because I’m not sure this forum was around then. Or I didn’t know about this forum at the time.) Everyone on our small team won. I won a Sigma bike computer (no GPS though). Another person won a nice bike helmet. And the third person won a Salsa Vaya bike!
I already had a Garmin 305 so I never used the Sigma computer. I sold it to someone for $40.
This was probably 4 or 5 years ago. I think they only ran the contest once or twice. It’s possible that it inspired other companies to start up the National Bike Challenge, which started in 2012(?).

ParticipantThis is the first time I’ve seen them split up by category (bronze, silver, gold, etc.). I know you can’t win more than one prize per month, but I wonder whether, say, a gold cyclist can win a bronze prize?
Also, I know that Platinum and Diamond categories apply only at the end of the competition. But I wonder how many of the other prizes will be awarded monthly, as opposed to only at the end.

ParticipantA Gold cyclist is eligible to win prizes from the lower categories too, and so on. Silver eligible for Bronze, etc.
Most of the prizes are awarded monthly. For prizes that have 5 or more total items, divide by 5 to get the number awarded each month. That’s how they’ve done it in the past.
They say they are continuing to add new prizes. Since it’s a cycling contest, I hope they get a bike company to throw in a bike or two as a Diamond-level prize. I know the odds are very slim of winning a diamond prize, but at least 0.003% is better than 0% chance.

ParticipantAn All-Star won toilet paper last year. Another won a jersey. Others won other stuff. This year our captain has won socks already before the first official prizes have been awarded. The National Bike Challenge has been very good to us.

ParticipantI just figured out based on present mileage and planned commutes the next two days that when I get home on Friday evening I will have logged 999.9 miles for the month. Knowing that now, I can’t deviate, as i think it would be cool to go to bed with that number in the books, and then get up Saturday morning, go for a ride and roll it over.
