Only two more days before the National Bike Challenge starts, so I thought I’d review the instructions for joining both the competition and the Washington Area All-Stars:

To join the National Bike Challenge competition:

    1. If you are already a member of Facebook, MapMyRide, or Endomodo, you can log in using one of them at this page. OR go to the registration page of the National Bike Challenge site, fill in the form and click “Register.”
    2. Select a method for logging your rides.
      • If you are currently using Endomondo, MapMyRide, or Moves, you can link those with your NBC account and your miles will automatically be transferred over, provided you log into the NBC site at least once every 6 days. Or you can set up a new account using one of these services. Information on each of these services can be found at this link.
      • If you are currently a member of Strava or Garmin Connect, you can set up an account on MapMyRide, and then use FitnessSyncer to have your rides automatically synched to MapMyRide, from which they will automatically be picked up by NBC, provided you log into the NBC site at least once every 6 days. However, do not sync from Strava or Garmin Connect if you are already uploading your rides to MapMyRide, as this will result in double counting those miles.
      • You can manually enter your rides each day. Obviously, this takes more effort. However, it gets the miles onto the NBC site instantly, while other methods often seem to result in a delay of several hours before they appear on the NBC site (even if you manually force a sync). And miles entered manually can be edited, while miles that are synched cannot.
    3. Remember to log in at least once every 6 days if you are synching your rides. If you are manually entering miles, make sure you enter all miles for the month by 11:59 PM on the last day of the month.

To join the Washington Area All-Stars team:

    1. Join the team on the NBC site:
      • While logged into the NBC site, go to this link and click the “Join” link, OR
      • Follow the instructions on this step-by-step video:

    2. Optional: If you are a member of Strava, go to this link and join the Washington Area All-Stars Strava team. This will not have any effect on your standing in the National Bike Challenge, but is a place for team members to conduct discussions, compare mileage, etc.

Questions? Feel free to send me a private message.

Look normal to me now. Maybe you caught it in a glitch.

Even if that part is broken, I’m happy this AM because… After some issues at the end of last week, my morning commute, synced from Strava to MMR, was immediately synced with NBC when I logged in!Looks like the issues they identified last week re: MMR ride syncing WAS the culprit, at least in my case. Nice to not have that frustration.

My Endomondo miles never synced… that’s OK, I don’t like Endomondo anyway. :D
