Only two more days before the National Bike Challenge starts, so I thought I’d review the instructions for joining both the competition and the Washington Area All-Stars:

To join the National Bike Challenge competition:

1. If you are already a member of Facebook, MapMyRide, or Endomodo, you can log in using one of them at this page. OR go to the registration page of the National Bike Challenge site, fill in the form and click “Register.”
2. Select a method for logging your rides.
• If you are currently using Endomondo, MapMyRide, or Moves, you can link those with your NBC account and your miles will automatically be transferred over, provided you log into the NBC site at least once every 6 days. Or you can set up a new account using one of these services. Information on each of these services can be found at this link.
• If you are currently a member of Strava or Garmin Connect, you can set up an account on MapMyRide, and then use FitnessSyncer to have your rides automatically synched to MapMyRide, from which they will automatically be picked up by NBC, provided you log into the NBC site at least once every 6 days. However, do not sync from Strava or Garmin Connect if you are already uploading your rides to MapMyRide, as this will result in double counting those miles.
• You can manually enter your rides each day. Obviously, this takes more effort. However, it gets the miles onto the NBC site instantly, while other methods often seem to result in a delay of several hours before they appear on the NBC site (even if you manually force a sync). And miles entered manually can be edited, while miles that are synched cannot.
3. Remember to log in at least once every 6 days if you are synching your rides. If you are manually entering miles, make sure you enter all miles for the month by 11:59 PM on the last day of the month.

To join the Washington Area All-Stars team:

1. Join the team on the NBC site:
• While logged into the NBC site, go to this link and click the “Join” link, OR
• Follow the instructions on this step-by-step video:

2. Optional: If you are a member of Strava, go to this link and join the Washington Area All-Stars Strava team. This will not have any effect on your standing in the National Bike Challenge, but is a place for team members to conduct discussions, compare mileage, etc.

Questions? Feel free to send me a private message.

Well, if it ever doubles up on miles, you should be able to delete the extra ones. If deleting them in Endomondo doesn’t work, there should be a “clear miles” option if you click on the relevant day. Or you can enter a ride with a negative number of miles to balance out the extra ride.

I tried syncing from Endomondo but nothing showed up so I entered miles manually – now to see if it doubles up on the rides or not :P

MapMyRide should now be syncing for everyone. If it is not, go to “My Account,” and try to reauthorize it. For some reason, it seems to have unauthorized itself for some people, and reauthorizing is fixing the problem.

I dont see any way to deauthorize it in My account. The only clickable link is to sync…and that’s not working at all.

and nevermind again. De-auth / Re-auth doesn’t seem to do the trick. If it doesn’t show miles in the next hour or so, I’m going to give up.

Have you reported it using https://getsatisfaction.com/nationalbikechallenge? There is a thread on this issue at https://getsatisfaction.com/nationalbikechallenge/topics/map_my_ride_issues, which indicates that they are dealing with the MMR issues on a case-by-case basis.

Thanks for that tip – I’ll give it until midnight to refresh…after that, I’m just not going to bother anymore.

I gave up on fitnesssyncer. it was clogging up MMR app with garbage. I’ll just upload directly from the Garmin to Endomondo. Can someone remind me when the deadlines for prizes are?

I’m uploading to Endomondo just the same as the last 2 years. Slow and tedious, but it works.

Prizes will be awarded each month. Miles must be either uploaded or manually entered by 11:59 PM on the last day of the month to be counted.

For anyone still having issues with syncs from MapMyRide, can you please contact Alison Dewey at alison@bikeleague.org, with a screenshot of your MMR miles? Clearly, MMR miles are syncing for some people but not others, and they are trying to get to the bottom of this.

The numbers look a little off for the whole challenge. We’re well into the challenge and it is showing that all 10,000 of us have ridden 3400 miles?
