Why start now?
I am not starting now. These have always been the rules of this game, as posted on the first page of the thread. They are not ‘guidelines’ (we had this same discussion with calvinball where people made exactly the same argument). In the past this game has been self enforcing. When someone posted a dubious pic, it got voted down. In the current version, that isnt happening as much. I attempted to rely on the peanut gallery. That didnt work. I have made my nudges. That didnt work. I made louder nudges. That has resulted in a couple of people challenging how I am administering my own game. If this still doesnt work, I will implement the rule that Freezers who win a round of Notorious must wait two days before their next submission (the goal – at least in this version of the game (games do evolve) – is to keep NOTORIOUS a game with multiple potential submissions – not one person who spends a Sunday gathering 10 entries in succession and just runs away with the game)
I am fascinated here and elsewhere – when a volunteer-host of a game says “this is the way we will play” – and people squabble with the volunteer-host about what the rules are. As has been said elsewhere, the volunteer gets to decide how to play the reindeer game. Freezers can elect to participate – or not. Feedback is certainly welcome. But squabbling with a volunteer and the way in which that volunteer elects to proceed with a game is a good way to ensure that people dont volunteer in the future.
We will be keepin’ the code

ParticipantWhat has been happening here reminds me of the maxim that just because you can do something doesn’t mean that you should.

Interesting. A new alliance between Judd and Steve O. I thought I felt a disturbance in the Force.
I’m going to to be Steve O’s Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Steve O did in fact ride to the next place in two minutes. If you think the picture that he took in the day looks like it was taken at night then you need to quit pushing your liberal night time fake news agenda.

Might I suggest raising the like threshold to something higher than 3 to encourage more picture competition? It seems like it’s been pretty easy to get three. It might also encourage people to get a bit more creative.

Now that’s an intriguing idea. It might encourage more instances of when both people got a photo, both of them put them up, and leave of to the masses.
More importantly, if we go from 3 to 5 it would allow us to make another Monty Python and the Holy Grail reference. (One… Two… FIVE!)

Just to be clear, both Kitty and I took our pictures of the Jefferson Hotel well in advance of the scoring of the Hanafi Siege. Only one of us was admonished for violating the spirit of the game. Of course, she is much cuter than I am, so that may be why.

ParticipantRichard Berendzen, a scientist, was the recipient of several NSF grants. His salacious behavior resulted in his downfall from an otherwise successful career as an physicist/astrophysicist.

For the record, I rode to the Wilson building first for the Hanafi seige, but it was too cold to upload from there. I did visit Jefferson hotel from there just in case someone scooped the seige first (as you did).
Because I don’t know if someone will upload and change the objective while I’m out, I fully admit to looking ahead at the list, doing the necessary research, and then taking photos before they are announced as “in play.” My interpretation of the rules was that was okay under RCannon’s ruling.
The only reason I put up the Jefferson and not the Wilson building was fact that the discussion reminded me that we can have more than one photo up until a photo reaches the requisite number of votes.
Long story short, I don’t want special consideration or dispensation.
If doing advance work, short of posting, prior to an item being in play is invalid, I won’t do it again. Otherwise, seeing as multiple pics can go up for each item, I’ll do the research and take photos when I can, as I am trying to fit this into my commute/errandneuring.

ParticipantOkay, I am waffling on this a bit. I am reading what Judd and Kitty posted. Yup. The whole design is to be a fun bike commuter game. And I have no prob tweaking this to make it more fun and competitive.
Let’s say
* We increase net votes to four votes
* And you can take pics whenever – instead of only after an item is playWhat’s top keep someone going out on a weekend, and taking like 25 pictures – and then sitting at their desk during the week and just running through those pictures. Instead of a cycling game where we go to the next kodak moment on the way to work – it just becomes an instagram game.
How about this
* We increase net votes to five votes
* Pictures MUST come after the item is in play – but with a five vote count that gives people plenty of time to take a snap
* Freezers playing Notorious posting pictures should also be active votersThoughts?

ParticipantOkay, I am waffling on my waffling (I posted something and then thought about it and then deleted it)
I have read what Kitty and Judd posted – and you know this is just a game. It’s designed to be fun. So I am most willing to tweak it to make sure the game works.
What doesnt work is if someone goes out on a weekend and takes 20 pictures – and then during the week just runs through them. Then this becomes an instagram game, not a cycling game.
So thinking to myself – does this work
* Item is in play after the score is posted for the previous item
* Photo should be taken after an item is in play +
* Photo must include your bicycle
* Photo must net FOUR likes to get the point (this should afford a bit more playing time to allow competitive submissions)
* Tim the Enchanter gets all the cookies+ I want to say this is a soft rule. It’s one thing to take one photo on your way in because you know the item is going to be in play today. It is another thing to spend sunday racking up photos – posting pictures of an item at night time when the item has only been in play during the day time – or posting a picture of a bright sunny day when its snowing outside.
Interested in feedback. Pending feedback, I will go ahead an implement these rules in the canon of the first page of the thread.
