I steal all my best ideas from er, Mikey, yeah, that’s the ticket…. Mikey. If I am not mistaken, a few years ago Mikey ran a FS game called “The Presidents.” The game was simply a list of the Presidents in order. Players cycled to some location in Washington D.C. that could be identified with that president in some way. The player took a picture and posted the photo to the forum. If the photo got three likes (if people could figure out what the photo had to do with that president), then the player got the point and the game moved on to the next president on the list.

Notorious is a game played the same way, only instead of a list of presidents, it is a list of Washington D.C.’s notorious history – some good, some bad, some ugly. Players take a photograph (with their bike) that in some way identifies that item on the list. If the player’s photograph and post to the forum nets four likes, it receives the point, and we move on to the next item on the list. Players can choose to explain their photo or not.

    * Item is in play after the score is posted for the previous item
    PHOTO
    * Photo should be taken after an item is in play +
    * Photo must include your bicycle
    SCORING
    * Photo must net FOUR likes to get the point
    * If two posts net four or more likes before I notice, the post with the most likes wins. If there is still a tie – I will find some other arbitrary and annoying way to award the point.
    * Group finds, everyone in the photo who is identified gets the point
    * Tim the Enchanter gets all the cookies

+ This is a soft rule. It’s one thing to take one photo on your way in because you know the item is going to be in play today. It is another thing to spend sunday racking up photos – posting pictures of an item at night time when the item has only been in play during the day time – or posting a picture on a bright sunny day when its snowing outside.

There will be prizes. Probably a bunny or a hand grenade. Not really sure at this point.

About as much as this one looks like it was taken in daylight at 6:30pm.

That entry wasnt in play – nor did it get a point. It’s wonderful if people post superfluous pictures. Its great to see alternative interpretations of items – a big part of this is learning local history. But in the spirit of gamesmanship it would be nice if people follow the spirit of the game. I have done a couple of nudges – I mean this is just for fun.

An item is not in play until the previous item is scored (that permits competitive entries) It also throttles the game a bit so people dont go take a series of pics
The photo of the item should be taken after the item is in play
your bike must be in the picture

Finally, and again, this is just for fun.

So Steve-O’s photo of the memorial got 3 votes (I was one of them!) Where does that put us? As the rules reminder came later, are to the next one? Or is the National Guard memorial still up for grabs?

SteveO currently has a net of two likes (the dislike is a strategic move in this game permitting people to make entries that they think are superior*). National Guard is still in play

To clarify, an item is in play until the score is given. This permits entrants to challenge. At the time of the scoring, the entrant with the highest net likes gets the point (with a min required of three likes)

    * if this causes the game to stall, I will try to resolve it
** This wasnt the first rule nudge

Steve gets the point for the National Guard

    Next: 1977 Hanafi Siege

Note: The entry needs to net three likes. A “dislike” can be a strategic move by an entrant offering an alternative entry

    1977 Hanafi Siege

(Khalifa Hamaas Abdul Khaalis, 54, the self-styled commander of the raiders, said he was the leader of the Hanafi Muslims, a small sect that has a blood feud with the Black Muslims, and that his men were responsible for all three assaults. Khaalis established a command post at the B’nai B’rith Building [1120 20th St NW] and directed his “soldiers” by telephone from it. Hostages were held there and….)

In two minutes after my post you went out, took this picture, and then posted it??

One more time. Picture is to be taken after the item is put into play.

I would request that you withdraw the above and play by the spirit of the game.

Interesting. A new alliance between Judd and Steve O. I thought I felt a disturbance in the Force.

I don’t know where we’re at on all of this, but just in case, here is mine for Sherry Rowlands.

    From the New York Times:
“In an average day, the District of Columbia police make 300 to 500 arrests, on a variety of charges, of men and women engaged in prostitution as either ”johns” or hookers. Yet a spokesman for the Police Department said it had no plans to bring charges against Mr. Morris over his reported frolics at the Jefferson Hotel, or to launch an investigation into whether such charges were warranted.”

Why start now? The way play has gone so far, the rules are more like guidelines, and the only de facto requirement is getting three votes. (I wasn’t even aware of the net vs. gross likes distinction.)

For some of us, who weren’t riding around on the weekend with the list in hand… it quickly becomes pointless to even follow.
