ParticipantYeah, that is land owned by very very very rich people. I doubt the county could get a CM of extra land along 123 there.

I’d settle for a “watch out for bikes” or “bikes may use full lane” sign”, but I’m not holding my breath. At the top of the hill, there are houses all along 123, but with the exception of a hidden path on the north/east side of the road, there are no sidewalks or crosswalks until you get into McLean. I also get the sense that the Potomac School is one of those places where students are only allowed to arrive by motorized transport, given the lack of pedestrian access anywhere in the vicinity.

ParticipantYou are absolutely correct. The Potomac School has a fleet of buses or parents provide door-to-door transportation.

ParticipantIf we had a safe, and legal, way to get into the District in front of the Jefferson.
This morning at about 0645, the benefits accrued only to vehicles of the four wheel variety, effectively blocking the sidewalk kludge that seems to be the PP legal approach.

ParticipantMy ride would be better if jammed my front fork back into alignment.
…
…
Oh, you meant that ride.May 25, 2012 at 2:05 am #941435KLizotte
ParticipantMy ride would be better if:
1) A detour around the pedestrian congregation point at Gravelly Point was built.
2) Drivers would stop parking in the bike lane on South Joyce Street next to Pentagon Row.
3) There was more bike parking in Georgetown.
4) Columbia Pike was bike friendly.
5) Rock Creek along the Potomac was better paved/widened.
6) There was a curb cut at Banneker Circle (L’Enfant Plaza) where the trail starts.
7) No more bugs!May 25, 2012 at 4:24 am #941436Riley Casey
Participant… If I could meet and wave hi to all my friends from the forum that I only see once or twice a year.:o

That’s not too bad. Every couple of months, I encounter a Park Police cruiser parked on the curb cut.

ParticipantHonestly, given that there is a completely legal if slightly longer (oh, the horror!) way to get from the 14th Street Bridge to 15th Street, I think I’d rather seem some effort put into fixing the road where 15th hits the Tidal Basin.

ParticipantMy ride would be better if it had downhills going both ways.
My ride IS better now that they’ve fixed that dip from the concrete to asphalt that was on the bridge on the Custis going over Lee Highway. Thanks, Bat-Tim!

ParticipantMy ride is already pretty wonderful, but today it was so good I thought I was dreaming. Virtually every single one of the 15 or so cyclists who passed me rang a bell or called their pass – all the way from Shirlington to my office in DC. That has never happened before. All the fair weather and beginner cyclists must be at home or in their cars.

ParticipantI’d love an hors catégorie climb with 27 or more switchbacks on both climb and descent in the middle of Hains Point.

Pete, you should be living in Rio de Janeiro.

Same here. I also appreciated the lighter auto traffic. I guess a lot of our fellow Washington worker bees got an early start on the long weekend.
