Anyone smart enough to borrow pantyhose and admit it on the forum fits right in. ProTip: stockings/tights are much warmer than pantyhose.
Welcome.
Oh, and my lovely wife disputes the use of the term “borrow.” That would imply she would take them back. She said that they’re mine now, and they will be removed from circulation.

As another relative newbie, welcome on board!
Relative like comparative, or relative like cousin of PeteD?

It’s Complicated(tm). Ian’s wife is the Daughter of my Aunt’s Husband’s Brother. I’m not sure the cousin calculators have something for that.

ParticipantWelcome to the fold! It’s nice to see another Alexandrian (and even Maryland connection) on here. At times the forum can seem as though it really is just about BikeARLINGTON, but there actually is a nice representation across the DMV.
Whether you want it or not, my advice for winter riding – I’m sure you have enough layers of pants, women’s tights (hee hee), and jackets that you can keep your body warm enough. But if you wear cycling cleats I suggest you invest in a pair of neoprene shoe covers. Definitely worth the $40!

Pro tip: If you get a run in the hose, a dab of nail polish will stop it in its tracks.

ParticipantPretty Sure I spotted you on Friday’s commute home. Were you heading South on the MVT near Gravely point around 5:00?

Hi Pete! Yeah, I’m not sure how it works. I just remember you guys shared an Aunt. But from what I see here, people seem to think you are a pretty great guy.

I’m shopping for some now. Which ones do you recommend? I already have the toe covers, I was thinking the Pearl Izumi Elite barrier booties. The reviews seemed pretty good.

Very helpful info. Thanks K.

Yep, that was me. I saw you too, well I at least recognized the bike from your pic. I was reluctant to yell out “HEY DICKIE!” though, just in case it wasn’t you. It is easy to spot a celeste bianchi though and I don’t see too many of them around. I’ll shout at you next time I see you.

Then there are those of us who live in Alexandria, but end up discussing Arlington a lot, because, geography.

I don’t know exactly which ones I have, but they are Pearl Izumis. I had some trouble getting mine because I usually wear mountain shoes and not all shoe covers seem to work with all the extra cleats apparently. I really hate putting them on too because it’s the last thing I do in the morning, and I need to sit outside in the cold or else I’ll boil over from all the layers I’m wearing. Once they’re on though they’re great.

Dickie also usually has two bikearlington reflective bands on the shoulder straps of his bag, which makes him easier to identify at a distance.

I get something like that shouted at me all the time.

ParticipantIan – Did you pass me on the MVT just south of Gravelly Point this evening? Me: Purple Bridgestone XO-1 with moustache bars and two panniers. You: Celeste Bianchi with backpack. I figure anyone who announces their pass so politely with a thank you for my acknowledgement and running steady lights must be a forum member.

Most likely Ian, but I was heading North tonight on the MVT on a celeste Bianchi with a backpack politely calling my passes…. did Ian sound British or have a speech impediment? If so it might have been me.

Sounds like me! I always say thank you after I call my pass and someone politely acknowledges it and lets me by. I’m always very very conscious about calling them too. I’ve had people just yell “LEFT!!!” as they blow by me and I always think there’s a better way to do it. Not just shouting at me when you are directly on my left scaring the hell out of me. Sometimes I give a “Happy Friday!” or yesterday there were a few “happy Thanksgivings!” thrown out there.
I’ll keep an eye out for you KWL!
I’m also going to start messing with people and shouting “On your left gov’nah!” with an awful and poorly spoken English accent so people might think I’m Dickie.
