Had to bail out to Bikenetic to mill the frame a bit and fit the parts, and even then, the fork crown race snapped when they tried to put it on. Worked out fine, though, with the replacement part.
The plan, going forward:
1) wheelset, now that the fork is on (Bikenetic is on the case for this)
2) measure rear hub for chainline, get BB and crankset
3) install old rusty bars and see what I think about bars while riding around in the elementary school parking lot (without brakes, temporarily)
4) decide on, and order bars and brakeSomewhere in there I’ll need a new seatpost and seat—don’t want to forget that. I have a spare set of dual SPD/platform pedals that will work temporarily, but in the long run I think it will be cumbersome to wrestle the platform side with the cranks turning.

ParticipantLemme know if you need bars. I have a small collection of compact drop bars (44cm). All black, but since you chose a black headset, I assume that black is what you’re going for.

Something like the IRD Defiant would look pretty sharp on that frame.
Sugino RD2s are sweet too:

I may take you up on this! The geometry of this build is unfamiliar, plus riding FG will be a different experience, so I don’t really know what I’m looking for with regard to bars. I like the Cowbell 2 bars on my Straggler, and the old Schwinn bars are a bit different from that. Since I have the old bars, I’ll try them, and see what I think. Then I’ll know what to try next, I hope, and I’ll get in touch with you.

ParticipantSo I have z bars on my fixie. And after close to 1000 miles I want drop bars. But I am not sure the frame will work for those. I am curious what you choose.

2) measure rear hub for chainline, get BB and cranksetI don’t know what it says about me that I totally forgot this, but I just realized that I have an extra crankset. Specifically, this un:

42 teeth, 172.5mm arms, and rather spiffy.

I have at least one spare SS/FG crankset (possibly two, soon) I will probably be looking to get rid of.

ParticipantAll this talk of fiddling around with fixed gears got me into the garage to work on my bikes this evening and had a very unexpected result. Made me decide to sell the s-works Langster. I know this isn’t the right thread, but since I figure folks who read this are interested in fixed gear bikes, I thought I’d put it out there.

ParticipantA member of my family wrote emails to several bike shops last night to see if they had a fixed gear bike in stock and if he could test ride it.
He’s got $20 in his pocket and is off school today. #tobe12again

He says he’s going to ride his skateboard to one of those shops on his travels today. Is one even allowed to ride a skateboard to a bike shop???
