MVT Detours

I knew this was coming, but now it’s actually here. On my way home this afternoon, two of the three wood chip detours were now in place on the MVT at National Airport.

The one that takes cyclists up the hill and across the airport traffic heading for the GW Parkway South did not go well. I was crossing with several other cyclists and the cars really balked at slowing down. They clearly weren’t expecting to see us there. This could really be rough at night. Maybe things will improve as cars and cyclists adjust.

Does anybody know how long we will be living with this?

There was a post on there somewhere about the easy detour through Crystal City. I updated it with routes through the airport for folks who wish to avoid the mulch chip climb. I think the southern route was actually easier to execute than the northern route, but I found both remarkably easy.
