This? Kind of an odd closure to have.

Maybe Obama wants to go for a KOM on that segment before the inauguration? Or squeeze out a few extra Freezing Saddles miles by crossing into VA?

Ha! The strange thing is that their next tweet says that coming from VA, people are encouraged to use the MVT to get to the 14th St Bridge…but I guess only if you’re coming from Alexandria?

Maybe to keep people from trying to trailblazer a path across the GW parkway on foot at those dangerous sections?

My thought was maybe to decrease bikes on the Memorial Bridge, which is a Ped bridge for the event and puts you basically in the Ped only zone? Though you could get there from the 110 Trail.

I thought maybe it was to secure the undersides of the bridges to make sure no one drives a truck bomb under them.

NPSGWMP responded to my inquiry. If you’re coming from Rosslyn, then use the trail that borders Arlington Cemetery.

For those driving to Rosslyn then, I would suggest parking by Iwo Jima. The 110 Trail starts where Marshall intersects 110, next to the Memorial.

Interesting since they didn’t close it in 2009 and more people were expected at the event. Of course, I didn’t ride that section until the early afternoon.

On FB the NPS has updated that the trail will not be closed.

Mount Vernon Trail Update: The trail will be open on Inauguration Day, January 21. Previous plans to close the trail between Theodore Roosevelt Bridge and the turn-off for the LBJ Grove will not go into effect.

Between 10:00 and 10:30 am, I passed a few groups on the Custis and MVT that looked like they were heading towards the Mall.
